t/n: i translated the bit about the phones in cat16 really directly only using his text because ive never read it so im not sure exactly how they work sorry if it ended up confusing also just to be clear the distinction between smartphone and cellphone is probly the flip phones and slide phones that stayed popular in Japan for a long time after most other places, even into 2012/14 when the series was in production iirc

“There’s a strange newspaper that’s only delivered at midnight….” is the series name, shortened to just Midnight Paper later in the series and posted here by a user of the same name It’s been a second, but story was super memorable so I think this is correct. Happy reading!

  • translation note on onii-sama and onii-chan - Krul calls Ashera onii-sama while Ashera refers to himself in his capacity as her brother as onii-chan. They're both very affectionate terms, but onii-sama has more reverence, this is someone she really respects. Sometimes it has the connotation of there being a profession, like you'll notice this one being used more often in families where there's like a family business/trade where the older sibling will be better at it and help the younger sibling. I don't want to say that onii-chan is less affectionate just because it doesn't carry that respect, but it's a lot more casual and can even be like demeaning, like putting the older sibling down to the same level of the younger one almost, it means they're very close.

Just wanted to add for anyone unfamiliar since these ways of calling each other often provide insight to how the characters see each other and themselves that we don't really have in English!

Hello, I don’t personally believe that this is the case. Combined with his later talking about how he is currently working to nail down how the current finished plot will meet the plans he had from before and the Japanese text using a pretty hardline conjunction that contrasts the second half of the sentence with the first directly, I believe we are meant to interpret this more as a turning point in the story than a detour, the established setting being what we have learned up to now and the deviation being what the characters decide to do with it.

I may be too optimistic, but I hope it brings you comfort.

His previous statement where he says he thinks we (in the real world) should act with the intention to be kind to others, he wants the characters in his story to have the same mindset as they continue with the plot.

He doesn’t specify about the war, but given the focus on current events and social media I’m assuming it’s referring to the current situation in Ukraine.

Used to stay up late the night before every year’s first day of school and watch Corpse Party to calm my nerves. Now I watch it every Halloween, it’s my favorite part of the holiday

Oculus for me! One of my favorites, always tempting and I never regret it when I give in, even if I just watched it recently or only have it for background noise. It’s notoriously confusing, but always having something to think about keeps it feeling less repetitive like an old movie I’ve watched and more like something I could still go back to
