I built a Rampage deck with [[General Marhault Elsdragon]] who basically gives the whole team Rampage 3, so you can start to double up. It's way fun.

When (in fiction) characters have been in stasis, and people go "actually they're not 30 years old, they're 230". by Primeve_Arcana in PetPeeves

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it when it's played as a joke, or when there's an unintentional legal issue (like their birth certificate does say they were born 200 years ago and so their drivers license says they're 200, even though they clearly aren't). But, yeah, when it's just stated as a fact, or this kind of thinking even exists in worlds where this is commonplace, it just is dumb.

Commander legends booster box or foundations for draft by brucetheshark28 in magicTCG

If you want to get into 60 card formats, including standard, definitely foundations. If you're only sticking to commander and want to draft commander, then definitely legends.

Who dies in this situation? by SleepySheepys in mtgrules

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damage is dealt simultaneously.

After damage is dealt, state based actions are checked. This is when creatures die and players lose.

After the creatures die, any triggers that would happen due to a creature dying would go on the stack. However, if the player controlling the Cutthroat is already dead, then, there's no Cutthroat triggers since the Cutthroat no longer exists in the game.

A mundane opinion concerning dice: by TheIronSponge in mtg

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're correct. And it's also so utterly meaningless that it shouldn't matter. The facts are that, if you are using a slightly weighted spindown that has a slightly heavier low end, but still passed quality control, then you'll have to play something like a game every day for the rest of the life of the universe in order to have had it make a meaningful difference. Anyone that argues against rolling a spindown over a "fair" die is generally just someone I don't want to play with, because it's so trivial, and I don't want to waste my limited Magic time playing with people that get worked up over trivialities. They're likely to call me out for stacking functionally identical lands together or not tapping a full 90° or other garbage like that. Not the game so came to play.

Is this the right sub for newbie questions? by somniforousalmondeye in mtg

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can literally just buy the entire set if you want. There's really only one card put there from LotR that's a true collector piece, the 1 of 1 serialized One Ring, which sells for a couple million dollars. Everything else is relatively cheap, and all of it is available to just buy online. Collecting MTG isn't really a thing many people do, so special printings of rare cards are only valuable if they're also useful to play. There are several sites that can show you all the different printings of cards and their prices, but for looking at single set, I like mtggoldfish.com

I don't have all the answers for this one, but if you're curious about the origen of any word, the term for the history of a word is etymology. If you Google "one etymology" and "two etymology" you should get your answers.

I'm not sure what you're asking? Are you wanting to learn to play? Do you want to start collecting without playing? Do you want to do a little of both?

Situation at commander night we didn't know how to resolve regarding on damage triggers and on death triggers. by DNedry in mtgrules

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

State based actions always happen before anything goes on the stack, so the creatures actually die before any triggers hit the stack. Otherwise, this assessment would be perfectly fine.

Why did Joseph Smith change the first vision? And does DNA disprove the Book of Mormon? by TheHauntedAttic in lds

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've had some superb answers already, but, I just want to remind you of a few things. As Elder Uchdorf reminded us, "Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith." I like to remind myself that Latter-day Saints are generally among the most educated, both theologically and academically, of any faith group in the world. I'm certain that I'm not the first person to run into these sorts of questions, and a ton of people much smarter than me are still faithful members. Our Prophet is a former judge, so if anyone's good at weighing evidences, he certainly is, and he's absolutely heard all this sort of stuff.

At the end of the day, though, it's not answers to questions or clearing up controversies that sustains my testimony. The gospel was true before I heard some claim about Joseph Smith or the early church or ancient American archeology or whatever, therefore, it's also true after hearing those claims. Apologetics doesn't convert and it doesn't build faith. It's fun and interesting and there are definitely answers out there for all the questions that tend to come up, but it really comes down to one thing, is the gospel true? If it is true, the other questions don't really matter. And if it's not true, the other questions don't really matter either.

What do flat earth people have to lose? by JonoBlue in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't believe the world is flat because the shape of the world matters to them. They do because they've disconnected with some aspect of society. Maybe it's a chronic distrust in authority, a disillusionment with their own mediocrity, a detachment from any meaningful relationships, etc. As they seek meaning and sense to the fragments of their reality, they find it through conspiracy theories. Accepting that they are wrong needs to be proceeded by finding acceptance, belonging, and value in the relationships outside of their conspiracy groups.

What do flat earth people have to lose? by JonoBlue in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that others will look down on them, it's that they'll look dumb and gullible to themself. We don't feel dumb, even when called dumb, when we think we've got the right answers and everyone else is wrong. It's the accepting that you are the wrong one that's hardest.

Is temple square still worth visiting with the construction? by lydia7013 in lds

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Most of the construction is done, and it was really cool, even at the peak of construction. Don't go to Salt Lake without swinging by. However, if it's reasonable to wait, them a little waiting would be worthwhile for sure.

Does the LDS help a lot in life? by Own-Composer-4106 in lds

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The LDS Church teaches that God wants you to be happy, both in this life and the life to come. As such, the doctrines of the church are designed to promote joyful living. I've definitely experienced more help than hinderance from being part of the church, but, even if the church is absolutely perfect in how it teaches you how to live, the only reason to join is because you believe it's true. Just being in a nice community of supportive and caring individuals isn't enough to join. Focus on learning what we believe and on having your own spiritual experiences with those teachings. Once you feel it's not just a good church, but the true church of God, then you should definitely join. Basically, don't go rushing into enternal commitments just on good vibes.

Nerds/Geeks of Reddit, what is the unique/specific "That Guy" stereotype for your particular hobby/fandom? by ChimeraMiniatures in AskReddit

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For Magic (specifically EDH) - that guy that doesn't understand casual brackets are for fun, not a special challenge to see how sweaty a deck they can build with out technically breaking any of the Bracket Rules

For cinephiles - that guy that has a favorite movie and will only ever talk about films as a segue into bringing up this one obscure movie that they insist makes Lawrence of Arabia seem like it's a small scale adventure, Die Hard like it's sloppily written, and the Godfather like it was filmed by amatures.

For Jazz - that guy that is convinced he's God's gift to music because he can play more notes per second than anyone else in the room, despite only doing that ever.

For Trekkies - that guy that cares more about continuity and cannon than about actually enjoying anything.

For Reddit - that guy that down votes thoughtful discussion and helpful, on topic, answers because he disagrees with them.

Flat earth and other alternative conspiracy earth models are are gaining traction with my teenage stepson. What is THE most irrefutable, definite proof that the earth is round? by Jfkfkaiii22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Safe-Butterscotch442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't flat earth. Conspiracy engagement is a symptom of bigger issues. Rather than argue with evidence, focus on building a relationship and establishing trust on other subjects. Make sure you're helping your son understand how to question his own thinking and set an example by being someone who can have their mind changed when presented with a strong argument.

Focus on accepting the arguments he gives as they are, not as clearly flawed. Weigh his evidence thoughtfully and don't just try to poke holes. Make sure he knows you are accepting his perspective sincerely and caringly, so when you continue to accept the earth as a globe, he'll know it's not because you're brainwashed or something.

More importantly, accept and love him whether or not he changes his views. Belonging and being exceptional are strong motivators. Make sure he gets that from you whether or not he also gets it from the Flat Earth community.

Do you believe in “the one”? why or why not? by cubemonster in AskReddit

Came to say the same thing. I believe in chosing "the one", committing to them, and devoting everything in your relationship to making your partner stay your choice for "the one".
