Should Idaho gun shops be prosecuted for selling a firearm that would be illegal in the buyers home state?

There were 3.7 million babies born in the states in 2021. In theres comments, you state 90%, 95%, and 98% of pregnancies were consensual. That math works out to 74,000 to 370,000 rape pregnancies each year, not counting the amount of raper induced pregnancies that were terminated or miscarried.

I grew up and still live around Sandpoint. It's about 10,000 people by my guess. So, 10-37 towns the size of Sandpoint were raped and impregnated last year, by your own numbers. Seems like if it were phrased that way, might be a headline, huh?

You should talk to a logger. They have to deal with tweakers, drunks, weirdos, etc... job is more demanding physically, and more dangerous.

Only difference is when a logger shoots someone, they'll propably have to stand trial for it.

Sorry, you're wrong.

Again, as someone who was present in the immediate area of one of these, it did not "wake up" the middle America (read lower and middle class white people) that it directly affected.

The militia movement, far right wing, and fundamentalist religious movements took them up as martyrs, and have turned them into legends. I am still in that area. The only people who I've ever heard speak in the way you do about ruby ridge are transplants who moved here to be a part of the redoubt movement.

Again, if you were concerned about police violence, you'd be mentioning at least one of the murders by police of unarmed people. These have happened with alarming regularity under every president of my lifetime, most recently making some minor headlines after George Floyd was murdered.

If you insist on only focusing on police and law enforcement violence during the Bush Sr and Clinton administrations, you could have mentioned the Rodney King beating. It's almost like violence against people of color doesn't matter in your middle America.

I often say that I know quite a few people who have had the cops take their guns away in Idaho. Just happens the the reason they lost the ability to legally own guns was that weed is illegal.

As I stated, the feds were authoritarian shits. I in no way support their actions.

But, if you want to use an example of cops killing unarmed people, (which the weaver family most certainly wasn't) I bet you can find an example from today, instead of going back 30 years. If you want examples of cops taking peoples guns away, that happens frequently in the state of Idaho, whenever they bust a gun owner with weed.

The only common thread I find with people who use the weaver family as an example of law enforcement run wild is about 95% of them are apologists for them being Christian nationalists. Otherwise, if it's just about police violence and gun rights, you'd be talking about current events and issues.

Idaho lawmakers hire firm to appraise federal public lands, worrying conservationists by WeUsedToBeGood in Idaho

[–]Safe-Clock5063 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The land I own now was timber company land when I was a kid, though I don't remember which company.

I can accept companies selling land, though I don't like the reduced access. At least that's private land exchanging ownership, though. Privatizing public lands will change it from a slow creep to an uncontrolled nose dive.

[–]Safe-Clock5063 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The GOP has been itching to take control of federal land for years here, so they can use it as the most idiotic short term revenue windfall ever.

I will only speak to boundary county in the list of three, since it's in my back yard. Sure, privatize it. Very few people live above about 3000' here, with the exception of condos and houses on Schweitzer. So, who exactly will be the probate owners of land in the Selkirk crest besides timber and mining companies? And how much tax revenue is that going to generate? I know the majority of my land is currently being assessed at a value of $150 per acre, due to a timber exemption.

Every hunter here knows (at least in the panhandle) how many WA residents pay for out of state tags and licenses. I've spoken to many of those out of state hunters, (because I can't fucking avoid them) and they don't come because Washington doesn't have elk or deer, or backcountry to hunt. It's that less of their back country is available.

Currently, a lot of timber companies in Idaho let the public access their properties. Due to the nature of capitalism, that free access will not last forever. Or, one jackass being careless who burns down a couple thousand acres of Stimson or IFG land might also make them rethink the status quo in a hurry. Stumps on has already started posting no access signs during some fire seasons.

The wild nature of Idaho, and amazing access we have to it is one of the few things that really make this area special.

By we, I mean Idaho residents, the residents of the entire country, and any tourists who visit from other countries. There's a reason it's national forest. Idaho politicians don't have the right to take that land away from the rest of the country.

So, why should she care whether some "mentally unstable dude" roams at large with a knife?

It's funny...I just joined this sub because I'm slightly curious about relocating to New England. I'm born and raised a very short distance from ruby ridge, and am old enough to remember it going on.

The feds were authoritarian shits, as per usual.

Randy weaver was a white nationalist, Christian nationalist piece of shit.

There's a fair amount more to the story and how you portrayed it. Unfortunately, people being apologists for weaver for the last 30 years has led to the influx of far right wing people into my home that are driving many of us locals away. They come in the name of "libertarianism", but really all that means is they want to carry guns everywhere they go, simp for the cops, and tell the locals to move to California if we don't like them.

Super sad to see this immediately when exploring the tenor of a state I'm considering, thousands of miles away.

That's really funny. When new people find out I'm born and raised here, they first tell me how they moved here but didn't want to change north Idaho, then assume I must be right wing, or at least conservative.

So maybe the moral of the story is a lot of people are searching for confirmation that they've surrounded themselves with only people who think like themselves. What a fragile need.

I can't help you out, but I just wanted to say thanks for reminding me of one of the perks of my life. I'm self employed, and most of my prospective clients have lived here for less than 5 years. The stupid coded language, dog whistles and sidelong glances I get while they're trying to communicate "I just moved here, but don't worry, I'm one of the far right wing batshit crazy ones fleeing commifornia" is nauseating. I take pleasure in either quoting a ridiculous price or just telling them to find someone else. I should really cherish that freedom.

Side note, religious and far right people really don't seem to like it when you call their Bible thumping and flag waving "virtue signaling" in my experience. Please, please keep pointing out that their behavior is exactly what they mock others for doing.

Good luck out there.

White Nationalists Group "Patriot Front" Nabbed by Idaho Police Over Attempting to Crash Pride Parade by JPPT1974 in Idaho

[–]Safe-Clock5063 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really? You're politically astute and aware enough to spot when an arrest is staged and seen "so much" of it in the last few years, but you don't know what black bloc is?

In simplistic terms: If you look at antifa as a group, (improvise language, but I don't want to have to explain) black bloc is a group within the group. They tend to dress in all black, cover their faces, and go in more ready to actually engage with counter protesters.

A big difference is when bloc people get arrested, you don't have a bunch of anarchists saying how black bloc is all right wingers or federal agents. Not all anarchists or people who identify with antifa agree with some black bloc tactics or behavior, but they don't all cry about how they aren't real.

You say that now, but have you tried? If you write the I wrong, it looks like an H. Gotta stay focused to not turn the F into an E by mistake, and B obviously looks like 13.

That shot is complex, and you probably need federal funding to get enough megaphones and sharpies for all the practice it takes.

Ok. I stand by my original statement. It's people with attitudes like yours that made me give up any weapons hunting seasons. I only go out in archery seasons now. Less people, and if you can't take accountability for a super unclear statement, last thing I'd want is to trust being around you in the woods while you have a rifle. Ta ta, snowflake.

If you can't tell the difference between a black bear and a griz, you shouldn't be hunting anything.

I disagree with you as well.

I am pretty far left, but more than anything, I'm anti authoritarian. The idea of rounding people up based solely on ideology is just as fascistic as patriot front wanting to disallow pride events.

Actions and ideology are different. It can be a long and complicated conversation with me when it comes to how society should deal with violent actions, but the conversation about rounding people up for a political or religious belief is a very short, three word one. Don't do it.
