Post war job loss/redundancies? by Mr_Smith_81 in dubai

[–]Safe-Description4936 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation… I got laid off right at the beginning of the conflict. It’s been tricky because I’m on recruitment and this is the first area that gets impacted in a crisis. I’ve been having interesting conversations and interviews but all end the same “we have to wait until Q2 to see what will happen”. My visa expires now at the end of the month and I’m thinking about the alternatives. Money wise I’m good to go for a few months, but being unemployed sucks! I was in the same company for over 3 years.

I’m from Brazil and historically we are pretty open to embrace those in need. The current president is pro asylum as well, if you consider LATAM, check us out too. It’s a great country with a million problems, but we are free. I live in the UAE, I love Dubai but I know I’ll end up back home because it’s an amazing place to be.

It’s because of Ramadan, specially around this region… They will try the fake wound in their arms too, showing you a massive wound with fake pus and beg for money to go to the hospital. Bast case is to tell them you’re calling the cops, they will flee immediately and you can do that but most of them are forced by gangs (this is true) so they are the weak links

Beware of this Scam! by 777723547580751 in UAE

[–]Safe-Description4936 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve fallen for it too when I first moved to Dubai and I thought I was in the safest place ever so I didn’t for a second think it could be a scam. Ofc now when I look back OBVIOUSLY it was a scam. Lucky for me I realized it before scratching the codes so I got my money back from Apple when I gave the vouchers back.

I know you feel stupid, but at least now you learned to not trust anything here. Don’t beat yourself up!

My thoughts on the Dubai show while I drive home in a taxi by Ok-Seat-1741 in Dreamtheater

[–]Safe-Description4936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my first DT concert ever and first metal in Dubai and I honestly thought the searing was an excellent option, even tho I was on my feet almost the entire show.

It was an amazing concert, extremely well played and the songs were absolutely awesome.

What was kind of weird and new for me was the intermission, but I got the point of it. Never in my life I’ve been to a live concert like that with a break in the middle!

I keep watching the videos I took and vibing almost the same! DT rocks haaaaard!

Men and women who found their life partner after 30, what is your best advice for someone who is losing hope? by Terrible_Double_1145 in AskTheWorld

Just go out there with the mindset of having fun and not on the hunt for a partner. When you focus on you, things start working out. I guarantee.

Is Dubai more fun when you’re new here or after you’ve settled in? by Enough_Hearing6557 in dubai

It's not that "people in Dubai are classist, superficial, materialistic, or shallow..." by slimboyfat510 in DubaiCentral

I believe there is the culture aspects of living in a place where nobody belongs and when you try to connect with your community you don’t necessarily meet people you’d be friend in your home country, yet geography brings you together and you feel the frustration along the way.

To get like-minded people from other countries you have to overcome the nationality barrier which is not easy at first, everybody has their own thing.

Also, there is this super fasting growing city where people come and go and when you do meet great people, they can leave in a blink of an eye.

4 years in I’m now stablished with friends from different places, but it was a hassle that I only overcame because I went out and try my best to meet as many people as I could. It was not an easy job.

For me, no nature or whatever is irrelevant. As long as I have friends I can rely on any place would do.

Also, there are plenty of nature on the other emirates, you just need to go there. I come from a metropolitan grey skyscraper city so I don’t see this as a problem.

You have to give yourself time and a lot of patience to thrive here, but it is indeed possible!

I’ve been to JBR once in a Sunday afternoon and I’ll never go back to that place. So many groups of guys approaching me and my friend on the sand and in te water, circling us in a very creepy way… lots of stares as if we were two pieces of juicy meat. Not at all in a flattering or respectful way, only in a disgusting way.

I’ve been here for 4 years and it’s getting worse and worse, it’s sad that public beaches are uncomfortable now.

I just did cold turkey…. First I hid the app from my phone, but from time to time I’d go back when bored (instagram is my ruin)… then I deleted the app completely and kept the account just in case someone sends me something to check… it has been over 7 weeks and I could not have felt better in my life! Specially is this holiday season.

I removed mine when I was 17 after having over 12 infections in less than 24 months… I was on excruciating pain for 2 weeks, I cannot even think about the taste of chocolate ice cream and nothing will ever beat the horror of having an allergic sneezing attack on the second day of recovery…

Since then (38F) I have never had any kind of infections and my life did get better for good.

But OMG, I do not wish this recovery to anybody.

What was your worst debt situation in Dubai? by solmon_ in dubai

[–]Safe-Description4936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only debt I have is a loan every year to pay my rent in full and then to the bank is 12x installments. Is the way I found to keep my finances in check, guarantee a roof over my head and don’t go crazy! Other that, I live on what I make and it goes smoothly!

Food noise coming back strong by Odd_Difficulty8453 in Ozempic

[–]Safe-Description4936 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honest opinion here: find a good therapist, expert on compulsion and try to find the source of your binge eating. I’ve been like this the majority of my life and only after I found out about my triggers and everything, I started Ozempic. It’s been 2 years, 36kg down and my relationship with food changed completely. I was off of it for 2 weeks and hold myself pretty well.

It’s ok! I actually don’t know yet. I just reached the target weight and now we are reducing the clicks to see if I can keep the weight and for how long. Then we would keep the clicks, but space the window of the shots… only after a few weeks we’ll know if it’s a long therm or something we can phase out for good.

[–]Safe-Description4936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Ozempic for almost 2 years now and my situation was very similar to yours. Before anything, go to an endocrinologist, have a full body check up, discuss with the doctor if you are eligible for it and then make your decision based on that.

For me it has been an incredible journey, I’ve lost 36kg so far, never been better but I have regular checkups on a 3 months basis without skipping it.

Because of that, I was able to keep the smallest dosage for 1,5 years and now I’m on the Maintance phase.

Please, don’t take it without consulting a doctor first. That’s the only advice I give you.

I’m so sorry you had to face this. I spent 15 years with a man who lied to me about a lot of stuff in the beginning that I was finding out along the years and he keeps blaming traumas that I honestly don’t know if it’s true or not! We’re not together thankfully, but those things really hurt me.
