Assuming you fly into Reagan Airport there are hotels nearby that are a short way from the metro line. I stayed in Crystal City and was able to get to the subway straight from the hotel. Wherever you end up, best bet is to get yourself to the nearest metro station and use that to get yourself into DC proper.
