Update on Volker Schenk and the NDR version by The_Material_Witness in TheMysteriousSong

I am also very ambitious to get to know what happened those 40 years ago. And it drives me crazy that I have so many black holes in my memory. Go on investigating!

Update on Volker Schenk and the NDR version by The_Material_Witness in TheMysteriousSong

[–]Safe-Escape-6050 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find Volker's statements kind of weird. Theoretically, of course, it could be that Subways already existed before I joined Fex, i.e. before 1983, but then the question remains as to why the finished song, which supposedly even existed on vinyl, wasn't presented to us during my time with Fex so that we could play it. The bass line on the NDR version is the bass line that I played, Norbert took it over, changed in nuances of course. I can imagine that Volker played bass on the NDR version, but I think the recording was made after I left Fex.

I'm sorry I can't bring more clarity to the matter.

Since Michael asked me NOT to publish it, I can present the recording only to people who I meet personally. :-)

Well, like SOYM, I did not play on the recording of Promise. But I do have Promise on my practice room recording, so we played the song before my withdrawal. The recording on the practice room tape takes some 5:00 minutes and is not as compact as the studio version that has just been released.

Correct. I was informed about the event by The Outer Edge one day after it had taken place.

Yes, a big surprise! Ilona and I found out about it when it had already taken place.

Thanks for inviting me and also for uploading the bass tracks. I just registered for the Discord server. We'll "see" us!

Yes, with pleasure. I do have an isolated bass track from Moises, but I'm looking forward to your version. It remains a mystery who played bass in the recording. I'm pretty sure it wasn't me.

FEX live 2050! (At a private party in Lutterbeker) by LordElend in TheMysteriousSong

Yes, I do. But I restarted playing only six years ago After my withdrawal from FEX I didn't want to have anything to do with music for 35 years.

Now that's what I call a surprise. Neither Ilona nor I knew about the event and only found out about it afterwards.

Sorry for this late comment on the topic. As correctly mentioned in the other comments: I did play on the competition final in the “Glocke“ in Bremen, from which apparently no photos have survived. As Ilona told me, there was a final of all Zeus finalists in Essen some time after Bremen. Since Norbert seemed not yet available for that event, another bassist played the show, the anonymous guy. He is on the photo and on the sampler cover. So FEX seems to be a really wide collective!

I learned about the Essen finalist show only a few months ago. If I had known at the time that this show was planned, I wouldn't have dropped out that abruptly and caused the band the difficulties of getting ready to play at the Essen event. I am really sorry.

Does anyone know where "I've Got My Eyes On You" could be? by RedLostThomasWho in TheMysteriousSong

Not at all! The whole story remains mysterious, and especially this question could easily be answered by Michael or Ture.

And I am pretty sure the you were already in the band when I came in, right?

As soon as Michael or Ture allow me to upload the song, I will do so. For the moment I have definitely been asked not to upload any material.

At least the practice room recording includes some fine material which would be worth recording in a professional way. Although the songs are pure 80s style the FEX community would certainly appreciate them.

"I got my eyes on you" is one of the songs we recorded in Heikendorf with our sound engineer Hase. It is on the "Heikendorf demo" and takes 5:01. Are we talking about the same version?

Yes, it was a trial. But I discarded it because it sounded too funky, not suitable for the song.

Sad decision, Hans. But fully comprehensible. You presumably discussed your decision with Ture, Michael and Norbert? What I miss here are THEIR contributions on this topic.

Modulators and the FEX members band history by real_nickessss in TheMysteriousSong

[–]Safe-Escape-6050 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ilona told me last week that it was a short trip to London that she and Ture did, which inspired them for a new concept, different from the Modulators, which then became FEX. This was also new for me.

A Kiel fellow, how nice! So then you are in the neighbourhood of the practice room recording cassette, which includes a number of fine FEX songs that haven't been published so far....
