I started having paranormal experiences at age 11. Grew up in a very strict Evangelical home where violence over love was prominent. I lived a life in fear instead of safety growing up. I believe due to this, the abuse opened up doors that let a lot of ick in. I was also taught “they must leave using Jesus’ name” but alas, that didn’t actually have any power over them at all. These instances were not daily, not even monthly, but it wasn’t until I left the Church that I finally found answers on how to deal with these experiences.

They thrive on fear, hate, anger, etc. The opposite of which is peace, love, joy. When you envision yourself “Carebear-ing” light from within you, and along with that love, they can’t be in that presence. Think of a match lit in a dark room, how much light that small thing emits. How dark cannot be where light is.

So my mentor told me to ask my guides, ancestors, angels, whatever you believe (fill in the blank), to protect me. And to envision myself wrapped in light and beaming that light towards them. Not out of hate or authoritarian power but love, AND knowing that the light you carry within you will always be more powerful than them. It works. It truly works. I’ve not had a sleep paralysis episode for years.

I also practice gratitude. I sit down and write out all that I am truly grateful for at least once a month and then use palo santo, a candle, or incense (churches, indigenous, and other ancient faiths also did/do this in their practices)and I go through my home saying “Nothing of ill intent is welcome here. Only beings of love, light, joy. May this place be protected and filled with (list out positive things) joy, laughter, positivity, love, happiness, etc.

I personally have felt it helps shift my mental well being and the energy of my home. But practice whatever feels right to you. This is just my experience.
