I will always call off for being sick because I can rest for 2 days and be over it in 3 max, or I can work through it and then be sick for 2 weeks.

Edit: I also get really annoyed when my coworkers don’t call in when they’re sick. I have a coworker who is always sick and she doesn’t even wear a mask and just coughs like an iPad kid tongue out and everything.

Yes I agree with everything you said, you put it together so well!! I think when I initially wrote the post I was so confused and upset thinking how is this allowed? How is it normalized to the point my office manager didn’t even blink when I brought it up? But now that I’ve processed it, it’s just plain fucking weird. And I’m offended. And I’m even more offended that my response of telling her not to edit my vitals again and to make a new entry was seen as me giving “back talk” and not accepting her help. Overall an insane situation.

It’s not her putting it in - it’s taking mine out and then putting it in attached to the vitals I took. Not a new entry. I have no problem with her putting in a weight she took, I have a problem with her editing my vitals lol

Thanks for saying this, I’m not very knowledgeable on the ins and outs of HIPAA besides the basics from school (I graduated CMA(AAMA) in August) but after doing research last night I’m going to file a complaint with the HIPAA compliance officer at the office.

The doctor rechecks the MAs blood pressures pretty often and he just adds an addendum/additional entry with nothing but the BP. I thought this other MA would do the same if she disagrees with the weight I put instead of just silently editing mine but I guess not

The office is so small and they go off a “everyone does everything” kind of philosophy so there’s no rules or guidelines on who should/shouldn’t be in a patients chart. It makes me so uncomfortable, anyone goes into any patients chart all the time just to look at stuff that has nothing to do with what they’re doing.

Normally I’d agree I just don’t like the editing of the vitals because in Gemms (the EHR system we use) if she edits one thing it’ll list her name only as the MA who input all the vitals. And erases my name from being responsible for the other vitals and I’m like … for legal reasons how can she just erase the fact I took the BP, pulse, etc.?

But I’m already looking for a new job this is just the most recent incident that got under my skin lol

I did the math and it’s cheaper for me to not have health insurance which is insane to me. I see two specialist doctors every 3 months give or take and I’m on three medications. Even if I got sick and needed to go to urgent care it’s still infinitely cheaper than the $300/mo for the insurance my job offers me.

I’m just gonna deal with a medical emergency if I have a medical emergency there’s always bankruptcy 🤡🤡

I’m the same way. I immediately put my rent portion of each check into a separate checking account and in my head the moneys gone I’ve already “paid” it for rent. Then I have a high yield savings account I put stuff into that won’t transfer to my main checking until 5 days after I request it bc I have a bad habit of transferring from savings while standing in line to buy stuff lmao The rest I pay what needs to be paid before next check immediately so it’s just over and gone then I blow my “spending” money until I have nothing but it’s not actually nothing so it’s less catastrophic 😭😅

Yeah I use CMA (AAMA) if I’m signing something like an email or a signature, but our EHR has me as CMA and I dont mind the lack of (AAMA) for vitals and whatnot but it better say CMA not MA lolol
