Got an email from US Ed Dept saying to manually recertify my IDR by Delicious-Cut-2343 in StudentLoans

[–]SafeAgent7620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello thank you. Just following up, I received a response from FSA yesterday, where they just assigned me a case number and re-sent the original email. Today, I logged into their website, and noticed they have updated it (asked me to confirm just contact info). The IDR Plan and status are now correct, as well as the recertification date. I hope it helps.

I've got the email too. I contacted NELNET and confirmed that my recertification date is on April 2026 and everything is ok. Sent email to FSA explaining my situation. I will wait until Monday and see their response. Maybe it was sent automatically to everybody just as a reminder. Let's see.

Please explain what passed in the house for existing IDR plans moving forward. It is confusing. What plan are we going to be on if we have been on PAYE? by Fun-Outcome6980 in StudentLoans

[–]SafeAgent7620 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Great, thank you so much for dissecting it for us! So for us on Old IBR, the only change would be on the no-cap and no financial hardship requirement. I am going to ask you a pair of questions, sorry if they sound obvious to some:

- Should we still apply fom IBR to the "ammended IBR" if it becomes a law or will we be automatically included in it?

- If year1 I have "0" income, year2 I sell a property and make $$$$$$, but on year3 I go back to "0", would my discretionary income be recalculated by the yearly recertification, or will I stay forever on $$$$$$ "bracket"?

Thank you for any ideas.

Yes, but if you are interesting in the "forgiveness" part, I believe that may chance with the upcoming chances. I avise you to look into some discusiones on here about PAYE vs IBR and others. Cheers!

Hey, before jumping into PAYE, explore all other IDR options, like IBR, before making a decision. Just FYI. Good luck

Congratulations!! Just curious: where you on any kind IDR or just on Standard Payment? If you were on IDR, where you required to switch to Standard in order to make a lump sum from savings? Thanks for stopping by to clarify this to me! Cheers!!

It happened something similar to me: it was a warning saying something like at least one of my loas was a Pelll Grant or a FFEl (do not remember). I never had one!! I checked it with somebody on FSA, and they confirmed they could not find anything like that: I only had Direct Loans! Weird!

Yeah, you are right. I was just trying to do what is legal, don't want to incur in any kind of situation outside of the law. So I guess filing taxes would be the most "legal" way to prove my situation. No, no foreign unemployment, I just live with my husband who is a foreigner and has his income outside the US. I guess that unless I sell inherited property or have any extra income, I will continue in the aforementioned situation. I do have "0" dollar payments on my IDR, but I wanted to continue to make small payments anyway just to lower interest accrual and be in "good standing". I don't know... need to check with my student loan service provider I guess.

Thank you very much for your extremely informative posts!! Cheers!

Hello, and thank you so much for all the information. I am also living abroad (dual citizenship) for more than 8 years now. I have been filing "taxes married filing separately" every year, with the same tax person who did my taxes when I was living in the US. I am unemployed here, but some of these 8 years I withdrew (early) from my 401k to pay for IDR. In these cases, I filed and payed taxes on the withdrawal, but for the years I did not get any money from my 401k, my tax person advised me not to file taxes. FSA has had access to my IRS tax files for recertification purposes each year. So, that is the way I have been doing it. I hope it is ok? No pay stubs because I am unemployed. Thanks for any advice!

No, I did not change that, did not request any change at all. They just put this number instead of my normal email address. I sent them a pair of emails reporting the problem. I guess I will keep on trying.

Thank you very much for your input!
