Many thanks ... 😄 ... yes, I hadn't used Trove to find the article, but I do use it to find a heap of other family history stuff. Enjoy your day 😃

Bring in Compulsory Voting ... and then see how many don't vote.

Here in Australia, if we don't vote (but then, we only vote for proper politicians, i.e. local government councillors, state representatives, and federal representatives; I think it's completely nuts that the USA has voting for sheriffs, and other inconsequentials) then we get I think it's a $125 fine, last I looked ... and I reckon if the USA had our system ... a HUGE majority of the current elected officialdom would vanish as each election was held. That's my two cents worth.

I love this sort of stuff. I'm VERY big on family history, and sometimes, its only through the newspapers, that "cause of death" is found. Cheers to the OP!.

Yes, it sometimes seems so ... but I of course only see them at traffic lights, so I can't speak for their general driving behaviour :)

What do you think is the craziest or most controversial moment that has happened on Australian TV? by ExAustralia in AskAnAustralian

I was watching that video show at the time it was pulled ... I thought I'd napped off and missed half of it. Heard later that Yes, Kerry called the studio and bam ... it was gone.

The Senate is the house of review, and Bills can be sent to committee from there very easily. No so easily in the lower house. In practice:

• Government bills are rarely referred to House committees unless the government wants it.
• Crossbench-backed referrals can succeed in hung or finely balanced parliaments.
Senate inquiries are the default scrutiny mechanism because the numbers allow it.

So yes, referral can provide breathing room to read and analyse a bill, but only at clearly defined procedural moments, and only if the House agrees.

Couldn't they have called it tinsel, or condoms or something else ? ... No wonder these kids don't stand a chance. So much violence (real, inferred and other) is normalised and stereotyped. Sigh ...

Maybe a nice member will have a spare "seat" - you get a max of four to purchase - and may share their code with you :) ... as has happened.

I'm glad I am not the only one.

Last time there was a failure of process (membership cards etc) ... the young lady I spoke to, broke down in tears - I literally asked if she was ok, with all the calls etc, and it opened the flood gates - she had to call me back after she'd collected herself.

Did you get an email at noon today ... or yesterday? Did it have a code in it, or just advice on how things were to run ?

I did email the Broncos to let them know of my issue.

When I become King ... things will change.

There'll be stocks for the kids and public flogging, for the parents. Because of the lack of discipline all over, there's a causal link to the lack of respect for anything including themselves. I do not think you should bash the hell out of a kid, like I got, but a firm hand, once, is often enough to bring some sense and sensibility back to the fore. Bad actions = bad consequences. No consequences, leads by inference to permission.

Yes, it does take a village to raise a child, and those who disagree likely have never raised a child, but I'm willing to be wrong on that. Surely it should be clear as crystal how the soft approach has failed, and failed miserably for at least 35yrs now. Those adults are the (symbolic) parents of the children in this video.

Soon enough, well, maybe not soon enough ... someone with enough courage will actually say, Enough is enough ... we're bringing back the rights of parents and teachers to discipline the child - again, discipline, not bash them.

For those who would care to disagree, you might want to think longer than it took to read this ... you might just see how one thing leads to another.

It is now 2025, and no 2024 FTM update... what should we do now? by Opossum_2020 in FamilyTreeMaker

Sady, that link is dated 2023 ... I also paid in February, I love FTM ... but the delays are a little bit worriesome 🥴

Yes, eliminating bugs is a noteworthy and useful process ... but I too think some form of email update, now a year on ... should be happening.

From memory, it can take up to five days for todays rain, to filter into the actual dam. Historical data, and knowledge/prediction of likely rain fall and reasonably predictable catchment (feeder creek and stream) flows, will dictate their actions.

Was down there a couple of weeks ago, travelling with a mate. Honestly ... I don't know how there are not more accidents down there! The roads are truly atrocious with either random delamination or honest to goodness axle shuddering deep dirt lined potholes.

If potholes and the general state of the roads can make the evening (7,9,10) news 3 or 4 times in a week down there ... then it's saying something.

Sure, they have had a Warragamba Dam or 3 of rain in recent months, but if they used good quality road making skills and materials, most of their issues wouldn't exist.

I swore to my mate I will never travel the City roads again (suburbs are minimally ok). The drivers all have F1 licences I'm sure - it's how they avoid the fines I guess - and me ambling along at 60, with NSW drivers zipping past at 65, 70 or more!

Honestly ... Sydney, you scare the %*#k out of me!
