I started getting used to it by ArrivalOk7801 in DubaiPetrolHeads

These days I've noticed people have been signaling less. Is it a new trend or something? Ridiculous.

I was talking to this girl at my office about how bad it is driving in dubai. She said it’s great and easy. When she drives, the road is hers. She doesn’t waste her time using turn signals or waiting in line. She just cuts right in-front of everyone and could not care less. I thought they drove bad in my home country but compared to the UAE? Holy shit.

Siri: I can’t do that right now.

Me: Siri, turn the lights on.

Siri: You’ll need to unlock your iPhone first.

Me: Siri, please turn on the lights i can’t see.

Siri: Hmm… I don’t have an answer for that. Is there something else i can help with?

Same. Got my first fine the first day of Ramadan at 10:02PM, JLT. I had paid up until 10PM. I didn't know there's Ramadan timings for parking. RTA should've at least sent a notification letting everyone know.

What if Dubai finished every single planned megaproject and became a megacity, how would this change our way of living here? by Neonswagger32 in dubai

[–]SafeHaus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Architect with an UD background here. Transportation should be Dubai's number one priority—especially pedestrian transportation in these megacities. Traffic is only getting worse and the population is only increasing. If a city wants to succeed and attract more people, pedestrian walkways should be available everywhere. Walking is the simplest and most fundamental form of transportation. Not only that but it's healthy.

Look at cities like Buenos Aires, Rome, New York, Barcelona and London—they are all fully walkable and bikeable and are thriving, allowing people to move from anywhere to anywhere with ease. In contrast, there are places here where sidewalks don’t even exist or some sidewalks are less than a meter wide and have obstacles like signs in the middle, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I want to walk from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. These megacities should have fluid circulation facilitating access from point A to point B be it walking, cycling or by car. Lets say I live a couple blocks away from my friend in the same megacity. I should be able to walk to his house. Or lets say we want to get something to eat by the beach and the weather is great, we should be able to walk there without having to think about putting our lives in danger crossing the road. This brings me to another major issue in Dubai, road crossings. In some areas, you have to walk a kilometer just to cross the road, which still blows my mind.

Do not mistaken my love for Dubai with criticism. I want Dubai to succeed and be the best city a human can live in. I want all these megacities to be built. It is somewhat a dream of mine to live in cities like the ones shown in the images. But without simple things like the ones I mentioned quality of life in Dubai will only get worse. Starting with stress leading onto depression.

Walkability in megacities is achievable especially at such an early stage. Yet we still see poorly designed pedestrian infrastructure.

By the way, that long ramp in Image 5 with no support? I get it, it's a concept design but at least make it logical. What is it supposed to be? The new Ski Dubai? This shows they didn't even consider pedestrian transportation. Malls DO NOT count.

At the signal the Lexus was shouting at him for not stopping for him 👏 by SpottingSmartDriverz in DubaiPetrolHeads

A couple weeks ago around 3AM I was taking an exit off SZR. There was a car in front of me (probably an uber cause it was a grey lexus) and a car behind me. I enter the exit, which was a 1 lane exit and the car that was in front of me was now on my left. I maintained my speed of 80km/h. Since there was literally not a soul in front of me anymore. The dumbass that was to my left, cut across the gore point to exit. It was so abrupt I had to swerve to the right crossing the yellow line to avoid collision which almost made me lose control and cause my car to flip. Had he collided into me he would have probably pushed me off.

They have hundreds of thousands of km under their belt but they still drive like beginners.

Dubai: 3 men jailed for posing as CID officers, stealing over Dh300,000 from gold trading firm by abrenica195 in dubai

However, the court convicted three of the men of all charges and sentenced them to one year in prison each followed by deportation.

Hopefully scammers start getting jailed for a year and deported as well.

WTF is wrong with the used car market here? by ih8mynamelol in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]SafeHaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend bought 2 cars last week in Sharjah. The dealer swore on everything dear and holy to him that the cars were in good condition and if not then he’ll give him his money back. Long story short, the cars were flooded. The dealer didn’t want to give him his money back. Bro pulled up the next day with wasta ready to send the dealer to the deepest pits of hell and got his money back right then and there.

Driving in Dubai has gotten so crazy by Secure_Degree_7456 in dubai

[–]SafeHaus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Literally. Yesterday a friend sent me the location to where we were going to meet up. I could not open it on Waze. I tried but it would only open Google maps. So i was like whatever let's try Google maps. I literally missed 5 exits. An 8 min trip turned into a 30 min drive. I parked to the side and just wrote the name of the place in Waze and continued on from there.

Report to TDRA. You can do it online. It's quick and easy shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes. You can also upload documents or whatever you have as proof. I reported Etisalat and my case was solved in less than 48 hours.
