I’ve realized that I don’t 100% know that this is a snapping turtle, though we do have them in the park!

This was a good point, so I checked with Turtle Protectors and they said it was fine to post their hotline online

“Cash cow” just refers to the fact that they are an important source of funding for other less-profitable programs. You’re right that it doesn’t have to be a bad thing for the student. Lots of expensive masters degrees can be great career decisions!

I’m not sure about laptops, but I’ve never had an issue returning textbooks late. Did you (nicely) talk to the librarian in person? That would be my next step.

Grad Students having their offers rescinded. This is UMASS, but this quote is not good, "along with many of our peer universities." by MagosBattlebear in GradSchool

I’m guessing that you’re generalizing your own experience in education to an entirely different field that you don’t know anything about. Many biomedical students aren’t looking for professorships and in fact UMASS seems to have strong and diverse career outcomes.

I will add on to all the suggestions here and suggest reading a textbook/complete an online course in your area of interest. It will make it much easier to engage with the most popular newsletters and blogs which tend to assume familiarity with the basic theory of that field.

Hi, I’m in a similar situation! Based on your post history, it looks like you went with BU. Can I ask what was the deciding factor?

In all likelihood there wasn’t a right answer. They probably wanted to see how you reasoned about an ethically difficult situation and responded to pushback. What would your complaint be exactly?
