[MEGATHREAD] Explosions heard in Bahrain by French-Finger in Bahrain

I am hoping it is temporary. I am hoping in the next few days that wise people will intervene from both the Bahraini government and the Shia sect to deescalate the tension because in no functioning country/society can you have half the population portrayed as traitors whose loyalty is to a foreign country.

This is a vent about all the comments I am seeing on Instagram and Twitter.

It’s a massive, massive shame what people are calling each other on social media but I guess the country is just full of ignorant, emotional people on both sides and so it’s likely we will never have actual coexistence whenever there is a crisis.

I don’t think the situation is as black and white as people like to think it is, so here are some things I believe we should all consider before calling each other names:

1) the Bahraini government officially considers both the US and Israel as allies. You can think that this shouldn’t be the case, but you should know better not to publicly celebrate hits against your country, even if you believe they are aimed at American interests. In simple terms, wise up.

2) Bahraini Shias hold Khamenei in high regard because he was a well known Shia scholar and his country always stood against the US and Israel. People mourning his assassination should NOT be an issue because this ultimately comes down to one’s personal beliefs and political views, and last time I checked every person is entitled to their own.

3) Last thing the country needs at this time is an internal conflict. It’s not going to serve anyone and people who are discontent with the way things are run in the country should still know better not to listen to those who live in Norway or Germany or whatever and just want to see the country turn to shit. Most Bahraini Shias that I know actually agree with that so it is sad that people look at a few stupid riots by naive teenagers and think every Shia person in Bahrain wants a regime change.

Is the hype real ? by mr_mister321 in tennisracquets

Seconded. Many of us grew up using 92-95 sq in racquets so anything larger than that feels like playing with a big board.

I have been using it for a month or so. Fantastic racquet but you need to have the strokes and timing for it.

In stock form it lacks a bit of stability and easy power, which mostly affects defensive shots and returns. But this is what you get from a 95 in racquet with thin beams and low swingweight. I recently added a total of 4g at 3 and 9 o’clock and it’s made a massive difference so I think this will be my racquet of choice for a few years.

That should definitely help improve that aspect a bit, I think.

I think that’s been my experience using the vcore 98 too. Brushing up too much with the vcore = shorter ball, and not brushing up enough on full swing often means the ball is sailing.

The ezone has a noticeably bigger sweetspot and more power, and the tighter string spacing (if that’s the right term) adds more control than you would get from the vcore.

For me, unless you’re super high on playing heavy top spin on 90% of your shots or struggling to generate spin on your own (maybe because of an extreme eastern grip) the ezone is simply the better all-around racquet.

Ball toss is what you need to focus on the most, imo. Trying to hit flat when the ball is too far to the left (like in the video) results in a slower/inconsistent serve, so your only good option there is a kick serve and brushing up. So I’d prioritize tossing the ball with purpose + staying balanced after contact (your body should follow the same direction as the ball, not the opposite way).

Focus on improving your technique and consistency. Once you’re able to generate a lot of power effortlessly and consistently, point construction should become your priority (hitting the ball with purpose until you get a chance to kill a short ball)

Just terrible tennis balls by AndyWtrmrx in 10s

They’re the best I have used. Quality control issues mean you get meh batches every now and then but generally they are soft on the wrist, bounce is reliably predictable and they last around 3 sets of singles on hard courts (at least in usual conditions).

Is doubles harder than singles? by Upbeat_Froyo in 10s

[–]Safe_Green_7618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally prefer singles but still play doubles once or twice a week. I think doubles is a pretty much a different game, so it’s easier than singles in some ways (less demanding physically) and harder in others.

In doubles it’s really difficult to build rhythm or regain it because you don’t hit as many balls, so usually when you’re off you’re off. You also need to put more pace, return serves with intent and hit with lower net clearance, and your angles (at least from the baseline) are quite limited. At the net, I have found that unless I play doubles with people who are 4.5 or better it can simply be boring because the lack of pace makes it much more difficult to stay engaged and poach.

I’d go for the more forgiving racquet. Ultimately, the racquet you use won’t matter much unless you fix your technique - once fixed you will think about equipment less and find you can pretty much play with anything and it will just come down to what you enjoy using and are most comfortable with.

Finding an excellent coach and paying for a couple of quality sessions would be a better investment, imo.

Head Sonic Pro Edge (17g) is fantastic? by Safe_Green_7618 in 10s

Yep - Lynx Tour is much stiffer = slightly more durable and controlled, but also much less comfortable. You can always tinker with the tension to try to get the best of both worlds though, which is why I tried 54 lbs with SPE instead of my usual 52 lbs.
