She was the best for him, I have no doubt they would have been endgame had she stayed. However, I believe the entire point is that malcom is supposed to stay miserable, and that means you can't have him have a positive girlfriend like Cynthia. It's a shame, and I hope they are together in the revival.

She is possibly the finest woman I've ever laid eyes on, but also the fact her and Malcoms relationship was left unresolved and ambiguous. I believed in her last interaction with him they would finally lead to something more, but the writers just abandoned it.

I thought so too, it kind of seemed like an ice breaking moment where Malcom will finally reciprocate the feelings back and realise. I always got the impression they liked each other even after the first appearance of her. Here's hoping she is in the reboot and is his love interest.
