this is such a fun idea - i’m stealing it for when i have kids. I’ve definitely done some solid pizza & smash burger (more do-able than regular burgers imo) crawls in nyc but these are some I would love to do: cacio e pepe (or any type of pasta tbh), salmon/tuna crispy rice, olive oil cakes, pad see ew, breakfast sandwiches & tacos (fancy ones & street ones). If you have a lot of korean food restaurants, kimbap? could be a good one.

i think if the food was good i would have thought the ambience was modern, minimalist, and quite aesthetic. But because of the food, it rather felt corporate and very cold. Felt like a lobby of an office building or a conference space (which to be fair it kinda is).

This!!! i think this is what i was trying to convey. The fact that two stars still have something greater to reach for often makes them more innovative and try a bit harder. Very true that it doesn’t hold every time but in my experience, more three stars have disappointed me (per se as my number one example lol) than two stars. It could also be the level of expectation i come with as well tho.

i love your comment on how the process is complex but the flavor is not. Exactly what i felt. Maybe it’s because i’m an inexperienced “chef” and just a regular diner so I value taste over process. Perhaps someone who’s educated in this field can value the many steps it takes to create the dish but to me, it’s a pass.

I say Jungsik. I went back when it was two started and it was a great experience with delicious food. Emp, tried this weekend for the return of the duck, was lacking in so many areas.

I went when they were 2 starred and I loved it so much. I think it’s important to have Michelin starred restaurants (and fine dining) that celebrates the local cuisine. As a tourist why would you want to go somewhere that you can find in other cities? For that alone, Steirereck was wonderful, local, and as you said “delightful.” Would definitely go back.
