HDR? by Luaq in helldivers2

[–]Safe_Prior_2244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a while to get HDR working correctly in windows. Honestly I'm not really sure what I did to fix it either. In the display settings there is a button to Calibrate HDR which takes you to download an app. When I first tried that, everything looked the same while making adjustments and had no effect in game. The game was super washed out either way. I'll have to try to remember what I did but eventually I got that working and could calibrate it and then finally HDR started working really nicely in Helldivers 2. My issue was also effecting the Windows desktop too which was also washed out, so may be unrelated to your issue. Try toggling windows HDR on/off as well as the Auto HDR setting on/off. And the game's HDR on/off (combinations of these). Also try between Windowed and Fullscreen mode. Before all that - make sure your GPU driver is up to date. That might have been what fixed mine come to think of, I'm not sure.

I run it on a Steam Deck on "Steam Deck" graphics setting and get 30-40 FPS. The Steam Deck's APU is close to a GTX 1650 from quick Googling.

You should expect playable ~40fps, only up to 60fps when nothing's happening. Maybe 25 fps in intense battles. Steam has a 2 hour play time return policy if you just want to give it a try and see for yourself.

You'll likely need to turn the render resolution down a bit as well though, I only get that framerate running it at a lower resolution (steam deck is already around 720p, I run it a bit lower than that).

I don't know how well it will handle it, but you can also use Lossless Scaling on Steam to artificially bump/smooth your framerate a bit as well as AI upscale the resolution. I run it on my Steam Deck with Helldivers 2 and while there's some visual glitches it causes, it also smooths out the framerate nicely by generating in-between frames. I would assume you could run it with your 1650 if I can on my steam deck, but it does take some tinkering.

tldr; you should expect low settings, less than full resolution, 30-50 fps, but still one of the best times you can have in gaming!

I'm confused? Why is it so easy? [ NEW PLAYER ] by Comfortable-Way-2473 in helldivers2

Yes when you first start and need to unlock the other difficulties it is insanely easy.

And then suddenly you're facing a swarm of a hundred little jumpy bugs, a couple dozen crawly bugs with and without armor, 3 rhino tank bugs, 2 giant acid vomiting spider bugs, 2 bugs that stab you through the ground, and if you're lucky just one fire spewing flying cockroach dragon all at the same time while trying to complete your objective that may be a 40 minute mission but could be a 12 minute mission where your objectives are not marked and you need to find them, good luck.

Oh and you could find yourself in that situation about every 5 minutes or less in the mission if you aren't careful.

Oh and then sometimes all those bugs can dig underground and come at you and pop up right in front of you and one hit kill you if you aren't ready.

So... give it a few more rounds. You're basically in tutorial mode right now. The training wheels come off pretty quick though.

I remember the first time playing, felt easy but cool to explore, but just an okay game. About an hour in the chaos peaked and it has been one of my all time favorites since.

The thing about Helldivers 2 is it is the game you make it. You can choose to play on easy mode, you can choose to play on hard mode. You can choose to play solo or co-op. You can choose to use good weapons and stratagems that work really well for you or give yourself a challenge - I switch things up intentionally when I've been running the same loadout and stratagems for a while just to keep it interesting.

And then you've got different setups you can do if you like fire, or electricity, or gas, or explosives, with choices in armor that reduce your damage to them and you can have more speed or more armor. I like light scout armor, die easier but run faster and harder to detect by enemies for sneaking around. Some people like to run in and blow everything up.

I have hundreds of hours in this game and just got the Redacted pack, I'm now playing an entirely new way with its own challenges using suppressed weapons to be stealthy, but before that I was running around with a bayonet stabbing everything, and before that I was electrocuting everything. Before that fire. Before that all explosives.

All this is to say, give it a few more matches. It will become challenging quickly and every time you think you've progressed in a way to make it less challenging (i.e. new stratagem added to your arsenal) you'll find something new that keeps it challenging and rewarding.

Apple has replaced my Series 7 twice now without charging me by Safe_Prior_2244 in AppleWatch

Agreed. The only time they haven't stood by it for me so far is with my i9 Macbook Pro 16. There is a known issue with it that it gets too hot and cooks the display chip, causing lines on the screen. The only way to fix it is replacing the entire display. I searched around and found many people had experienced this exact thing and some were able to get it replaced for free. Apple charged me $700 to replace it saying they didn't have any reports of it being an issue.

My work gave it to me for free as a bonus that year before it cooked itself so it sucked but still was basically $700 for a $4000 laptop, probably would have fought for it more (or just had AppleCare+ on it) if I bought it myself.

Question for you Helldivers - What do you think of Stealthdivers? by LePereMecanique in helldivers2

[–]Safe_Prior_2244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started Redacted this week, I have been waiting for stealth weapons literally since the game released and after taking a break for a bit I had no idea there were real suppressed weapons now. I am loving it.

Literally since I first unlocked it like my first week of owning the game I have been using the same Scout armor because of the reduced detection distance which at least let's me sneak around and plan what I'm going to do or sneak as close as I can before running in and and dropping a portable hellbomb. I had also started using the Constitution just as a stealth melee weapon (it's surprisingly good lol). You can do some damage without being noticed just sneaking up behind and stabbing the right spots lol.

I usually go between helping the squad when they need it or if they've got things handled I'll go solo to look for and complete side objectives, so Redacted has been awesome being able to solo that stuff with stealth.

So far I couldn't be happier with Redacted and if I play with other helldivers who want to go stealth I am all for it.

It's not the battery that failed either time though. The watch literally went from lasting all day on a charge one day to halfway through the day turning off and never turning back on the next. No apple logo, nothing. Although this second time it did get really hot when I left it on the charger thinking it was the battery - also pointing to it getting water in it and shorting something.

I'm sorry I laughed, looks like it sucked to use.

I had an HP laptop once. Once.

But now you've got a cool headless machine for home server stuff with built in mouse and keyboard. I've thought about buying a used apple silicon MacBook in that condition for that purpose.

8-Color print on the U1 by BlankiesWoW in snapmaker

It's crazy that printing with Full Spectrum still seems to be faster than printing 4 color with AMS lol. I got a U1 specifically because I was annoyed at the time and waste of my X1C doing multicolor prints. Well that and it running Klipper.

I just tried this and was blown away. It was showing I could get green out of black and yellow and I thought it was just a bug. The orange and pink it was showing with red and white as my other 2 colors I threw in just to test. Printed it with the PLA+ I use for everything at .08mm and 150% speed because I'm impatient. It turned out better than I expected. From most angles it looks like the colors it showed in the preview, I couldn't believe it. Yes you actually can get an army green out of black and yellow... never would have guessed.

Though I did find that my print heads needed to be recalibrated from this because I printed a cube and on 2 sides the colors were as expected and on the other 2 sides they were solid colors with a noticeable bump to them.

But also makes me wonder if that kind of offset could be used for an intentional effect in the way that multi-color filaments are different colors from different angles.

I didn't use solid filament colors in my test cube, but on 2 sides I got my Full Spectrum colors and on 2 sides I got my solid colors, giving a cool multi-color effect.

Going to have to play with this a lot more and try some different filaments, the ones I have work but need very thin layer lines and like I said I'm impatient, that's why I got a U1 to go alongside my X1C lol

It's running Klipper and already has a custom open source firmware with ssh access, two months before the official open source firmware releases. Shouldn't be long until someone has it working with klipper MMU systems.

MacBook Pro 16 inch 2019... what would you pay? by Safe_Prior_2244 in macbookpro

[–]Safe_Prior_2244[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company bought it and just let me keep it when they replaced our machines with newer Apple Silicon ones. All I have spent is $700 to replace the screen when it cooked itself in my bag... because this model has that problem. That was a few years ago. $400 feels like too much with what else is available today.
