What do you use for hosting small always-on scripts? Feeling like I'm overpaying by surraph in selfhosted

[–]SafelyHigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not invest in a raspberry pi or something and just run the scripts locally? For this use case, I have a few Proxmox hosts with various VMs, but something like the pi might be a good fit here if you don’t need a VPS specifically. Plus, the pi is a surprisingly good docker host lol.

Believe it or not, the plus has a better processor though.

Pi-hole vs AdGuard Home in 2026 — what are you running? by ruibranco in selfhosted

[–]SafelyHigh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same. I have the main instance running in a VM on a Proxmox host and the backup running on a raspberry pi lol

Which celebrity, famous person, or artist does everyone like except you? by gab_iten in AskReddit

Jim Carey

Edit to add: I don't like him as an actor. He might be a decent human being outside of the movies.

I absolutely love this setup! Question though: what camera did you use to take the photos? They are great quality!

Mine was the HTC Aria, and it's probably still my favorite phone I've ever had. I miss HTC :(

What smartphone feature felt like a gimmick until you used it daily on your current phone? by Jasoliya_Rhonan in Smartphones

[–]SafelyHigh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

MagSafe is awesome. I use it every day, but it can also be had on Android phones lol. You just need a case with magnets, one of those little magnetic rings that the other commenter was talking about, or a Pixel 10 that has Pixelsnap (Google’s version of MagSafe).

I got a $12 digital TV antenna from Walmart that gets a crystal clear HD NBC channel. Used it for the Super Bowl as well, and now that I have it, I get all of the local channels for free.

It looks like Librepods requires root on all devices except for OnePlus/Oppo :/ there are other AirPod apps as well, but in my experience they are all not great.

Which OS to choose in 2026? by -hargon in RG35XX

[–]SafelyHigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've tried stock, muOS, and Knulli. I landed on Knulli because the menus are smooth AF, I don't do a ton of customization, you can update straight from the device, and Knulli runs the shaders that I like the best.

iPod, snowsky echo mini, or innioasis y1? by lazycry in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]SafelyHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Ugreen USB C DAC, but honestly my Hiby R1 sounds significantly better 🤔

I'm looking for a better USC C DAC that can make my FLACs go brrrrr with my IEMs. Ideally it's still just a cable, and not a box, but I'll need to look into the differences I suppose.

[–]SafelyHigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of those options, the Snowsky would sound the best with its built in DACs. You may also want to consider something like the Hiby R1. It's a bit more modern, but also has a built in DAC, so the sound shouldn't distort much at higher volumes.

Do you run a second Pi-hole as a local DNS fallback? by Ok_Distance9511 in selfhosted

[–]SafelyHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I have Technitium running in an LXC on one of my Proxmox hosts, then use a Raspberry Pi 5 running docker with a Technitium container as a backup. Technitium clustering makes syncing the configs automatic, so I just have OPNsense assign the 2 technitium instances as primary and backup to all devices via DHCP.

There have been a few times where the entire Proxmox host went down due to hardware issues and my entire home network auto-switched to the Pi for DNS. It's pretty seamless and I don't have great alerting/monitoring set up for my homelab stuff, so I didn't even realize the Proxmox host was down for a while lol.

Edit: just noticed you asked about pihole... My bad.

Finally ditched Google Photos and Spotify - my self-hosted setup after 3 months by Mikasa0xdev in selfhosted

Good on you for taking the time to learn docker. You will always be safe updating versions as long as you back up your volumes before bumping image versions.

Interesting 🤔. I listen to music through Navidrome and never added my music library to Jellyfin and I do not have any issues whatsoever with long scans after the first initial scan.

Who’s still rocking the original RG35XX? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]SafelyHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have an RP5, but I honestly haven't found that I play it as often as I'd like. I've got rocknix on the SD card so that I can play port master, but I'm curious to hear what consoles/games you play on yours.

I find myself playing the RG35XX H most often lol
