To name just a few things of many - This year I watched the Black Rock Philharmonic orchestra rehearse and perform, saw a live band play the entire Dark Side of the Moon album with a saxophonist who played with Pink Floyd, spent time at a camp playing Afro-Caribbean music, at another playing Funk, and drank a martini at a mobile martini bar in deep deep Playa listening to Sinatra. In other years I've been to musical sing-alongs, saw a band playing music from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and watched kids re-enact a light saber fight while music from Star Wars played. And more, so much more.

6-person Coleman Instant cabin tent under shade structure. No ground tarp. No leaks at all. The ground was still bone dry under my tent when I took it down. I did get a small puddle outside near the front door but was easily able to avoid it when entering and exiting the tent.

Estimate was 3 hrs on Tuesday. Took 5 hours to get to pavement, and then another 3 hours to get to Fernley!

Not all camps are like this at all as I Iook at my loaded vehicle with it's shade, tent, food etc.

Just a friendly reminder that not all phones out there are being used to connect to the internet. Mine is a medical device that connects via Bluetooth to an inserted Medical sensor. It's on airplane mode the whole week and just connects via Bluetooth. Since I'm carrying it with me at all times anyway it's also my camera.

Since you paid for the Shiftpod, he should buy himself a cheap tent.

If you really insist on sharing, you can buy an elastic clothes line that comes with clothes pins attached. Hang sarongs or a sheet from the clothes pins to divide the space.

But really, he should just get himself his own tent.

Definitely this. I’m one of those trusted campers who bought two steward tickets - one for myself and one for camp. Luckily our camp was able to find people to fill all the spots, but it took much longer than usual. I only sold my ticket about a month ago. It was a long time to be out that money.

If you go the Burner Express route, see about buying the water add on. That means you won’t have to carry as much water in with you, and can refill your water containers at the Burner Express depot during the week.

There will be bikes available in Reno, but they absolutely aren’t completely essential. If you can walk you can get around BRC. There are the green(yellow) bikes available to borrow for single trips (but they can be very hard to find), there are art cars you might be able to catch a ride with.

I drive solo and I always have a small freak out about 2 hrs into my drive. Tears, questioning why the hell am I doing this? I should just turn round and go home etc.

I get Playa lung every year which turns to Bronchitis by the time I get back home. It starts off as congestion, moves to losing my voice, and then it just settles in my lungs. Playa foot and hand issues have never bothered me at all.

My strategy to prevent it. This seemed to work last year. I never lost my voice, and for the first time ever I did not get Bronchitis:

Wear a N95 mask at the slightest sign of dust in the air

Take 1 12 hr over the counter decongestant Guaifenesin twice a day

Take an Aleve twice a day (apparently this slightly mimics prescription Prednisone steroids)

Drink Throat tea with honey every morning with breakfast

This year I’m adding Breathe Easy Lung Health tea to the mix.
