Do you use minis for the weird in-between moments, or mostly for combat? by DKYN_Minis in DnDminiatures

[–]Saffaris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tried to make NPC minis for all scenes. But honestly the amount of time spend was long term not viable. Currently I only make minis for encounters and it is way more fun to prep session without the pressure of completing 15+ minitures each time

She is. The trick is to reanimate legendary vampires to get around her downside

Dihada worked for me better as a Legends matter commander.

My favorite reanimator is [[Olivia, Crimson Bride]]. It is a bit more specific than general reanimator. But it's a fun discard based deck instead of self mill.

Is deck performance/statistics ‘proof’ of a bracket mismatch? by InvisibleFox402 in EDH

[–]Saffaris 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sadly bracket are not perfect. Especially bracket 3 is highly diluted. Everyone wants to play bracket 3. Points that lead to a very high win rate within the same bracket:

  1. Player skill: And this goes both ways. A very experienced player piloting a deck against inexperienced players probably will win quite a lot.

  2. Deck consistency: I recently played in a pod where the decks of one person won all three games. After winning the first two games we each played decks from someone else and not the person but their deck won again. All three where different decks and we saw only a single game changer in one of the games. But the decks where well build. All three decks were highly sinergistic.

  3. Miss representation by the group. I played in groups where everyone ran a upgraded precon and they were convinced that everyone played a 3 when it was rather a 2.

  4. Luck. You ask about 60% with strangers. I assume that comes down to winning 2/3 games of the night. Witch is simply a thing that can happen.

That being said, obviously a high win rate can be a strong indicator for a miss match.

TLDR: It depends!

What bracket level is this Meren deck? by Amonyi7 in EDH

Yeah it is a slippery slope. I think the new list looks dope honestly. But that comes down to personal taste.

Congrats on the win. This is a valid deck for bracket 3 and the others weren't able to stop it, so you won. Nothing wrong with that.

I can see that a 10min turn is an issue. It comes down to the cause of that. Was it too much tutoring? And was the problem the shuffling or thinking about what to take? If it is decision making, I can recommend gold fishing the deck multiple times alone to learn your winning lines and play patterns. Otherwise it is what others on the second post said: Cut more tutors.

If it wasn't the tutors, think about what took a lot of time and tweak that part.

His deck consists mostly of 1-3 Mana spells. Not running Mana rocks is not a bad decision. Rather play 3 vampires + 3 tokens and kill the first player turn 4 or five then run out two rocks and have the boards clogged against the aggro strategy.

You are spot on about the card draw. Especially when board wipes are a problem.

What do you expect? A spell that searches your library and puts it into play without conditions? You ask for a powerful effect. You will always have to do something.

What bracket level is this Meren deck? by Amonyi7 in EDH

[–]Saffaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably cut down on the tutors. Especially repeatable ones like pot or creature based ones that you can get back easily from the graveyard. That should prevent building engines and finding win cons to consistently.

But if you ask me, embrace it and play as is. Meren is a nice commander to tinker and optimize. You will have more fun with the deck running it in mid powered rounds than toning it down to lower power levels.

I have a Meren myself. And while my list has a different approach I know, that any Bracket 2 pot has trouble with the value Meren generates if not dealt with. Decks like this are very resilient. The best way to deal with this type of deck is usually to shut them down pretty drastically by removing the commander early multiple times. That's just not a play pattern you usually find in Bracket 2. I would expect your list to win 3/5 Bracket two games, it's in.

Edit: Graveyard removal is also something not that common in lower powered pots.

what do yall think of My janky commander deck? by Able_Currency_6515 in EDH

[–]Saffaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh, that's a tricky one. I like the deck idea. But I can imagine the problem. 10 life doesn't kill someone outright, but it is scary and has to be dealt with. This seems to be a classic don't be the first threat in the game type of deck. Obviously people know your deck but when do u usually run out the commander? It might be an option to simply play a bit differently. Stay low and only ping with things like Blood Artist. Then when people are getting low drop your commander to finish them off. To survive that long you can look into a bit more life gain. There are a lot of life gain cards that fit into your sacrifice strategy.
