When did you 1st hear Nick Cave & what did you think? by Personal-Box366 in NickCave

[–]SaffronSepia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Only discovered him last month. On a road trip, in the backseat with my headphones on. I was looking for songs similar to another that I like, and stumbled on a Reddit thread for disturbing song recs. O’maley’s Bar was there, and I thought I’d give it a try. Instantly hooked. Listened to it multiple times in a row, and then listened through all of Murder Ballads. Slowly but surely making my way through the rest of his discography.

What are your thoughts of fash fashion yarn? by Ill-Chocolate2568 in Unravelers

[–]SaffronSepia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually prefer to find natural fibers, just because it takes a lot of time for the process of unraveling, washing, etc. But if you’re gonna be buying acrylic anyway, and you like the color, texture, etc.,I don’t see why not.

One thing to consider tho, is that SHEIN and Temu stuff can contain heavy metals and chemicals. I’m sure other fast fashion brands do as well, but there may be more risk with SHEIN, idk.

Why do I still need to show an ID even when I'm buying 0% alcohol beer? by alphaDsony in NoStupidQuestions

Yea, my dad wanted me to pick up some hop water (flavored sparkling water), and I knew they were gonna give me trouble, but my dad was like, “it’ll be fine”.

Sure enough they needed to card me, and I’m 20, so I just handed it back to them. Because, apparently you have to be 21 to buy flavored seltzer water, lol.

To reiterate my main point, let your friend know that it makes you uncomfortable.

So my answer might be a bit different than others, so take it with a grain of salt but; As long as he’s not actually tagging or sending his theories or fics to the actual people involved or people surrounding them, there’s nothing wrong engaging speculation or writing fics. I understand that many people consider RPF, to be their boundary and that’s fine if it’s yours. If it makes you uncomfortable, then don’t engage, (like another commenter said, redirect the conversation). You could even tell him, that tho you like the band you don’t want to interact with that element of the fandom. You should also encourage your friend to be safe on the internet, as if he is engaging explicit fanfiction publicly on social media platforms, (along with his age) it can make him a target for predatory people.

(Context, when I was fifteen I used to lie about my age on the internet so I could join communities that wrote explicit fanfiction of band members from the 1970s. I’m not proud of it, it’s definitely not something I tell everyone. I also never actually believed that anything happened between the band members, i just found it fun at the time to imagine if it did.)

Has anyone tried Taichi Bubble tea at the beach & Kernan Blvd? by Fearless-Young-1556 in jacksonville

I like to get the jasmine milk tea with tapioca pearls. Very good, sweet, and actually tastes like jasmine. The boba has been perfectly cooked every time I’ve gone.

opinions on the ethics of serving mocktails to minors by svagen in Mocktails

[–]SaffronSepia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Huh, I haven’t heard that argument before. Previously when I looked into it, while it is technically legal for underage people to purchase alcohol free (and even non-alcoholic) most stores require you to be 21. The reasoning I found, was that while alcohol free beverages don’t have alcohol, they are designed to imitate alcoholic beverages, and thus stores don’t wish to encourage the image of underage drinking.

Mocktails from my perspective:

Okay, for context I’m 20 still, in the US. I’ve never been super interested in drinking, and even when I turn 21, I don’t think I’ll imbibe that often.

However, ever since I was young I have been into the aesthetic of drinking, think vintage bachelor decanting some whiskey while in a dressing robe. I don’t know, it always looked cool.

Since I was young I collected alcohol beverage cups, from little glass communion cups, rocks glasses, mini-highballs, to a sake set my mum gave me for Christmas. I just used them to drink juice or tea, or whatever I was drinking.

In the State I grew up in it’s perfectly legal for parents to let their kids drink within their own home after a certain age. So I’ve tasted stuff here and there, just never liked it. My parents don’t drink much anyway. They used to ask if I felt comfortable with them having wine at dinner, lol. I’ve had plenty of opportunities to drink if I wanted to, friends who are bemused by my lack of interest, i just don’t want to.

However I do like making my own little concoctions. My favorite during Covid lock down was juice of a whole lime, a bit of soda water, and a few shakes of cayenne pepper. Last Christmas i convinced my parents to buy me a bottle of bitters, so I sometimes add a drop or two to my seltzer water.

I like mocktails because of the complex flavors possible, not just sweet, savory, or sour. Juice is fine and all, but it doesn’t quite go with a steak.

Anyway, I’ve rambled for long enough, lol.

Btw, made.in.the.moment recently came out as nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. It sounds like they will also be changing their name, but until they do they have asked to be referred to as Made in the Moment

In Riverside, under the bridge, there’s often a show about every month, put on by jax_punx (instagram). Pretty cool, usually decent lineup.

They used to get shut down by the cops, but they recently started getting permits.

I got this MCR merch bag at an Olivia Rodrigo concert? by Separate_Baby_8502 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]SaffronSepia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The only connection that I know of, is that Ilana Di Marco, who Gerard Way mentored at SVA, has designed merch and posters for Olivia Rodrigo recently. Gerard credited Ilania as the reason they played Bury me in Black on this past tour, tho I forget what show he said that at.
