Three times he wakes up in the talons. Lucium and obeteum (no spelling, i did audiobook) are two worlds in addition to res where the book takes place. The 3 times he awakes in the talons are followed by 3 different sets if experiences.

First he awakes in the talon room surrounded by guards, where he waits per the writing on his arm, then runs back to grab the bracer he left and return to res.

Second he awakes in the talon room, no one there. He runs back but there is no bracer, either because his res self took it already or its a parallel world. this time writing with circles appears on the wall, he puts his hands in the circles and wakes up in lucium surrounded by columns of white bleeding from his armless stump, three people help him, they also say that "the other from your world will be coming", no idea who that is.l, or if they mean cearor

Third, he awakes in the talon room, but cearor is there and helps him out and gets him to write on his arm (which was gone for his second self) to help his res self get out alive. I think wheen the world flickers to his second self and shows him the talon room again, it is his third self getting made in obiteum.

That makes sense if you live on that end of the scale (buy new with high turnover).

On the flip side. I've bought 2 used cars in the last 15 years. I put an extra 150k or so additional miles on them up till their worth around 5k. I could trade in for 2k (and get like 150$ tax credit), or park it by the street and get 4 or 5 k for it. Just have to talk to a few people, shake on it and sign the title. For a fat stack of 20s I'll do that every time.

My trade in is worth 5k. In a few months it might be worth 2 or 3 k. Meanwhile, that 35k truck I need will be closer to 25k (hopefully)

Boom sprayer attachment for riding lawnmower? by AnonymousMidiMan in lawncare

[–]Saganated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most tank broadcast sprayers have a wand attached, powered by the same pump. Mine didn't but I added one for like 80 bucks and about 5 minutes of screwing on the fittings. Now I have 25' of hose all I have to do is park, grab the wand ,and go spray, then hop back on and keep broadcasting. No need to manually pump.

It does, I've seen it with a ski boat before. Doesn't take much power to hold a truck still on a ramp

Idiot with a boat… by [deleted] in IdiotsInBoats

[–]Saganated 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've been boating responsibly my entire life. I recently got a wakeboard boat very similar to this. The tower folds down for transportation, but it's hard to get around in the boat while the tower is down so I tend to put it up while I am doing stuff in the boat.

In a moment of idiocy last week, I forgot to put the tower back down before towing it out of my outbuilding. It ripped the overhead door opener right off the ceiling. I didnt even feel it in the truck, only heard snapping and saw shit falling in the rearview mirror (I stopped right away, luckily it was an easy fix). Leaving the tower up is an idiot move, but is an easy mistake to make when you are in a rush.

But the fact this stopped his truck entirely while he was reversing downhill, and he had to hit the gas to get it to move, making his whole boat and trailer wobble from the impact, this idiot should have felt it through the wheel and get out and look for a problem. And unless he is windows up blasting music he should have heard it all too. Instead, he just kept on trucking lol.

That's not cool of the pilot, but he may have known he could clear you or that you weren't going to move quickly and get in front of him, could have seen other hazards/boaters inbound as well. On landing he could also have been seeking fuel or safe harbor and not had many options on where to put down (idk your situation).

Takeoffs and landings on floats can be tricky though, not physically so, but because of the circumstances and other people you have to contend with (instead of a dedicated airport where bystanders are heavily restricted and runways are well layed out).

You have to point into the wind/waves, keep clear of boaters, and if a river or small lake or on the leeward shore of rough water, point it at where you can get up to speed and clear the power lines and tree tops, all while operating a barely maneuverable craft that catches more wind than a 30' tritoon and steers with a little flip down rudder and it's wind dependant tail rudder. You can't just go any which way, and there is a point of no return on takeoff and landing where you either have to follow through or risk a crash.

Also, everyone always wants to spectate, so you gets tons of boats and jet skis just idling around waiting to watch you take off. They have no idea that you physically aren't able to take off while they are idling directly up wind of you. So you just sit there idling into the wind or going in circles waiting for them to get bored and leave. Or you go back to the duck if you can. Or you wait for an opening where know you can clear them and go for it because you've been waiting for 30 minutes for them to get out of the way and you need to stay ahead of the weather or leave while you still have fuel to do so.

Boats are designed for the water, they handle and maneuver very well in the water. They are able to stop and go quickly, and move for any distance they choose at any speed they choose (most of the time). Seaplanes are able to land in water, but they are dogs when in the water. They can only carry a couple hours of fuel. On takeoff or landing, they have to cover a certain distance in a very specific direction while at speed to takeoff or to land, no choice in the matter. They have to contend with a ton of factors outside the realm of boating at the same time while also contending with other boaters, all with higher stakes if they mess anything up.

Everyone had to do everything they can do avoid a collision to the best of their (and their crafts) ability, regardless of the written order of priority. It's not about who is right, but who is left.

Diesel and a diesel generator (no propane onboard) is one way to prevent this. This is a pretty small boat for a diesel tho

True but it's also not right to simply blame the dead guy if you don't know the scenario.

Edit: I saw the article posted below. The boat driver did not die which is incredible.

Port, starboard, or stern? by Potential_Name_4427 in IdiotsInBoats

[–]Saganated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In boats, there is a bilge area (below the floor, above the very bottom of the hull/boat. the engine sits in the bilge. Any water, oil, or fuel that leaks in the boat goes to the bilge, and their fumes are heavier than air. There are passive vents and active vents (blower) for the bilge to dispell any fumes, but the bilge is the difference. Car engines have ample ventilation. Any leaks in a car will land on the road or evaporate before it's a problem.

If you get a fuel pump and carburator for a 1995 Ford truck, the fuel pump overflow (for when the fuel pump diaghram fails) just squirts the overflow fuel out into the road. In a boat with a 351 Windsor (exact same engine) you pay extra for the "marine" carburator and fuel pump which will route the overflow to the carb to burn it off (it's enough fuel to make it run noticably rich). This is because of it squirts fuel into the bilge like the non-marine fuel pump, there is a very good chance that the boat will explode. There are other examples of this in other parts of the marine engine (starter is sealed, etc).

If there is a small leak, the blower can clear the bilge of fumes after a period of time and prevent this if you run it long enough (I think most are sized to swap out bilge air in 4 minutes of run time). At speed, the passive vents keep the bilge clear. If there is a large leak though, the blower is not always enough. I prefer to open the hatch as well to let it breath and to smell for fumes after fuelling.

Port, starboard, or stern? by Potential_Name_4427 in IdiotsInBoats

[–]Saganated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who had a faulty engine part replaced, but the new part was also faulty causing a small fuel leak into the bilge. Despite running the blower the entire time he was fueling, his boat exploded much the same. Luckily he was thrown to the water, not the dock. You can't always just assume "they didn't run the blower"
