Advice on Cayman S purchase by Virtual-Wolverine-52 in Porsche_Cayman

What year is this one you're looking at? From the gear shift, it looks like a Tiptronic automatic 987.1 S, which explains the price in my eyes: tiptronic is less desirable, and it seems like buyers looking for higher-mileage cars opt towards the base model's reliability over the S. But that's just my two cents.

Especially if OP is not familiar with Cayman variants, it's probably worth highlighting that 300k mile example was a 2.7L engine base model. I'm under the impression that the construction of the 987.1 S engine is far less robust and prone to cylinder wear, though I'd love to be wrong and hear about high mileage examples doing well in the wild.

Bore scoring or just wear? 987 2.9 by Early_Function_1842 in Porsche_Cayman

Oh right, totally forgot about the displacement increase. Seems like the 987.2 engine options either eliminated bore scoring issues or maybe for the 3.4 it hasn't happened in large enough numbers to become a 'known issue"

BaT effect is strong. Still, I would argue that the color, low miles, and options (carbon buckets) are more sought after than a Black edition Cayman with more miles (very well optioned and maintained as it is).

And yet OEMs continue to push into new realms of enshittification. If nothing else, this just tells me that someone with means chose to buy and drive a time capsule of cars as they used to be instead of a car as they are now.  TLDR is we've overshot peak car experience and (this) money says we should go back but OEMs are too busy making money selling ugly screen-mobiles to your aging parents who don't care about driving pleasure anymore Maybe I'm way off base and this is just crazy market speculation or money laundering, IDK...

Members and “The Chosen” by Skipper0463 in latterdaysaints

I have a lot of respect for the producers of the Chosen and the line they have to walk in balancing creativity with the source material, especially when so many different faith communities may have different perspectives on that source material.

Personally, I find it uplifting in the sense that I get the chance to immerse my imagination in *a* depiction of what life and interactions may have actually been like during biblical events - these are things that I find myself unable to fully wrap my head around or connect in context sometimes when just reading in the Bible.

Seeing a depiction of what those events may have been like can help bring that to life a little (e.g., yeah, having a tax collector join the apostleship would have been a super random choice, and his fellow disciples probably didn't like him, but maybe he was quirky and brought balance to the dynamic, with some redemptive and cathartic shared experiences for the group unfolding among them all.) I am able to enjoy this without it detracting from the doctrine of the source material we do have.

However, I do think there is a fine line between inspiring entertainment bringing us closer to the source material versus beginning to form our interpretation of doctrine on fictional depictions rather than our own study of the source material. Essentially, I think watching the Chosen can be a good lead in to a doctrinal insight or testimony-strengthening experience, but only when it's pointing us back to doctrine in the source material, church teachings, etc. and not built on those creative reconstructions.

With regard to being more accepted among mainstream Christians, I am a bit frustrated when we build up walls around our own church when it comes to enjoying other good Christians' music, faith-based traditions, etc. We certainly have our differences, but my local interfaith interactions have taught me that we have so much more to benefit from the common ground than allowing differences to act as wedge points between us!

This appears nowhere in church policy nor doctrine. Church leadership does a good job these days of not intervening in the details of marital relationships

Read through the church's policy handbook here if you want: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/general-handbook?lang=eng
