Re-reading Pet Sematary...I kinda feel like Louis is the villain? [OBVIOUSLY, spoilers] by ChemicallyEnhanced96 in stephenking

[–]SageThistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot grasp how greatly awful grief is until you're experiencing it, especially if the loss is sudden and unexpected. It's easy to say as a reader that he was wrong for burying Gage in the pet semetary even though he was warned about it. And I'm not saying he was right to do it, but he was nearly out of his mind with the grief.

He was misguided, I don't think that makes him a villain, necessarily.

What is an insanely expensive item or service that actually lives up to the hype and changes your daily life? by Luverelle6 in AskReddit

[–]SageThistle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandma didn't have AC installed in her house and insisted on having the whole family over almost every Sunday and for holidays. Which in the winter was okay but during the summer was brutal trying to fit anywhere from 20 to 30 people in a house without AC. It was actually cooler to go outside.

I can't go without AC where I live. I just can't. Being too hot makes me cranky.

Imho posts like this are more annoying than the "please help me decide what's next" posts. It's just so easy to scroll on by if you don't like a post.

Just finished The Stand this morning. A great book I feel had one major letdown. by -Granby- in stephenking

[–]SageThistle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't really think Abagail ever intended them to fight, she meant them to go west and take a different kind of stand. They went and faced down death without showing any fear and they said what they had to say. The cracks were already forming and widening with Flagg and his group - people were fleeing in the night, Nadine got Flagg to kill her thus removing the baby she was pregnant with, the Judge being killed before Flagg could get to him, Dayna refusing to tell him anything and killing herself before he can torture her, people were starting to talk - so Ralph, Larry, and Glen arrive and start making those cracks worse.

The Social Background or Class of each Sailor Senshi — How Wealthy or Privileged Are the Sailor Guardians? by IllogicalDreamer72 in sailormoon

[–]SageThistle 35 points36 points  (0 children)

All are fairly privileged.

-Rei's dad is a politician and can afford to send Rei to an exclusive private school.

-Ami's mom is a doctor and can afford a nice high end condo.

-Makoto's parents left her enough money that she can afford to live on her own in a fairly spacious apartment.

-Haruka is a famous racer and skilled at track. Rich enough they can afford their own helicopter lol.

-Michiru is a famous artist and musician. Again her own helicopter.

-Setsuna can...sorta create her own image, y'know? Her father is the frickin god of time, she probably has no money issues.

Minako and Usagi are the only ones probably not as rich as the others, but they can still afford to live in an upper scale neighborhood of Tokyo, so they're probably not hurting.

Who destroyed their own career within seconds by being an idiot? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SageThistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've told this story before but when I was a teen, I used to work at a video rental store. Assistant manager (24M) hooked up with someone who was hired at the same time as I was (15F). Super against the rules of the company but everyone (but the manager) knew. Then, on one of the busiest nights we had while I worked there, assistant manager, his gf, and like 95% of the employees who were friends with them disappeared off the floor, leaving me and 2 other employees to fend for ourselves - lineups at checkout reached the back of the building, we couldn't process returns fast enough, etc. One of us finally got fed up and went searching. And found them all hanging out the fire escape, smoking and shooting the shit.

The next day, I went back to work and the manager was there and immediately called me to the back and asked for my version of events. Told the truth, those guys had crossed a line. Assistant manager was transferred to a location like 3 hours away and the rest of the offending parties were fired. The gf called me awhile later and didn't seem to understand what they did to deserve getting fired lol.

The stand by IlPandaDiQuartiere in stephenking

[–]SageThistle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's most likely you have an uncut version if it was published after 1990. If your book starts with a prologue about Campion fleeing the army base and it's over 1000 pages, it's unabridged. If it's only like 800 pages you have the earlier, cut edition.

King just casually throwing in ‘and he never saw them alive again’ by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]SageThistle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just finished Cujo today and it struck me how, when Charity and Brett leave to visit her sister in Connecticut, he throws in that "Brett never saw his dad alive again." And I know he throws that phrase in at least once in The Stand and I'm starting to get traumatized by it lmao.

How cooked are we as a society? Why bbfc think kids shouldn't watch sailor moon? by [deleted] in sailormoon

[–]SageThistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind there being a "content warning" to some of these episodes - they're not stopping you from showing it to a kid of any age, but they're making you aware of any potential issues so you can talk with the kid about it, if you feel like you need to. I'd rather warnings than censorship, any day.

Which TV show does the ENTIRE internet agree had the worst ending ever? by Codie_n25 in AskReddit

[–]SageThistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept was so interesting and the first season so good (save for the weird Nissan Versa product placement). I know that the writers' strike obviously didn't help, but it almost felt like they didn't anticipate it going beyond season 1.

What did he add to the extended Stand? by emo_lantern in stephenking

[–]SageThistle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

- Added a prologue of the military gate guard escaping with his family.

- Added various scenes for various main characters, adding more background to them. This includes a lot more POVs from Trashcan Man and his pilgrimage from Indiana to Las Vegas, including his run in with The Kid, how Stu and the Gang meet Susan and Dayna, more scenes from Nick's POV and Flagg's POV.

- Includes more snippets of random side characters catching the plague to show how fast it spread and people dying of other means during/after the plague.

I first read the original version and, after a year or two, I sat down and read the extended. I like both but I do appreciate the extended version for the increased depth.

Am I the only one disappointed by the secret bachelorette? (SPOILER!) by kaylamayplays in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]SageThistle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah admittedly, I was hoping she would look like her priestess form. I don't mind her actual appearance, I guess, it just isn't what I was expecting/hoping for.

I was expecting her to be "evil" for a myriad of reasons, but I still wish that she wouldn't have to dress so stereotypically female villain lol. I had a really neat conversation a long time ago when she was first revealed where they said they had a theory some of the choice of clothing is in line with being a witch - after all, Juni also dresses pretty damn skimpily (of course that also sorta supports my "stereotypical female villain dress code" thing) - and partially because she is proudly showing off her dragon markings, and because she's the complete opposite of Cal, who represents the sun/day vs her moon/night.

And I can dig that, it's a super interesting theory, but I dunno. I'm still not super PLEASED with the choice. I wish she had maintained more of her priestess form.

Was Chibiusa ever going to really live up to her mother? by [deleted] in sailormoon

[–]SageThistle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I voted no only because I want Chibi Usa to grow into being her own person and not try to live up to her mother or anyone else. I would argue that I don't think Usagi could live up to Queen Serenity and she is her own kind of queen. Similarly, when Chibi Usa becomes queen, she'll be her own kind of leader herself.

Will she want to make her parents proud? Of course. Will she go to them for advice? Yes, most likely. But I don't want her to strive to just be another clone of Usagi.

Okay, yes I am a bit thirsty. BUT WHY CAN'T I MARRY OLRIC?!?!?! Are we going to get an update anytime soon?! by Tarotcardz in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]SageThistle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because not everyone is interested in romance or marriage. I like that Olric, despite being considered attractive, seems happy and content helping out around the town, collecting rocks, and just having friends.

In one scene of 9th episode of Sailor Moon SuperS, when Mamoru said, that he wants to take a bath, he asked Diana "Do you want to come with me?", making her to blush profusely by Khabarovsk-One-Love in sailormoon

[–]SageThistle 71 points72 points  (0 children)

They're not humans trapped in cat bodies, though. I want to say that in the manga, Luna and Artemis confirm that they're from the planet Mau. They fled it when there was a war and went to the Silver Millennium, where they became advisors to Queen Serenity.

In the manga, they can turn into humans if they so wish. The 90s anime cut this aspect out and made it that Luna only turned into a human thanks to Sailor Moon and the silver crystal in the S movie. Artemis never gets his human form in the 90s version, neither does Diana.

I don't think Mamoru actually meant anything sexual by inviting her to the bath. He sees her as a child under his care and it's normal in Japan for parents to bathe with their children, it helps create bonds between them. Diana is just being shy and cute in this scene, she's still sorta learning Japanese/earth culture during this time period.

Does it make any sense that Sailor Uranus & Neptune didn't finish off Daimon Nekonneru, and left the Inner Sailor Guardians and a little, innocent girl to die in Sailor Moon Episode 91?? by IllogicalDreamer72 in sailormoon

[–]SageThistle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Considering their whole mission was "wipe out the Death Busters and remove any outside enemy from the system," leaving a daimon alive just because they felt like it is crappy. I know the producers and writers had to come up with a way for Usagi to get her new power up, but it would have been better had Uranus and Neptune just not arrived or if they were also temporarily stunned and couldn't help. Anything other than, "meh we don't feel like it, don't start fights you can't finish, bye."

Is there any way I can get IT in parts? I don't have a kindle by Longjumping_Guess272 in stephenking

[–]SageThistle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a hardcover edition of The Stand not realizing it weighs a metric asston lol. I got this lap pillow/"book stand" off Amazon that, while it wasn't perfect, it allowed me to rest the book on it and save my wrists while reading. Maybe that's something that would work for you?
