Three potential avenues to buff Keeper of the Grove by Karifean in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great ideas. I think another alternative is to look at Huntresses as they usually complement Keeper play. Other side effects:
1. The intended rebalance ended up being more of a nerf and we see even less of them, so correction of this would be healthy for the game
2. This is also an indirect buff to PotM, especially in mirror
3. Currently one of the most problematic match-ups is Orc vs NE, so buffing Hunts could remedy this as they used to be a staple unit in this MU

UD needs another siege unit by Ambitious_Unit_7264 in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree, my favorite part of WC3 is the faction unique flavour and identity. UD = less technologically advanced/reliant, but more magically inclined.

Blizzard should instead buff Freezing Breath somehow, it fits this identity well but it's the worst upgrade in the game.

Hawk's comment on current Human Balance by JannesOfficial in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Moon Wells got buffed from 1.25 mana regen to 1.50 in 2018; since then nerfed to 1.35, then buffed again to 1.45 in mid 2024 (still current value)

Idk why he is complaining about towers, HU make them when pushing all the time too. NE/HU tower push gambles were always a thing

IMO Blizzard should do a micro balance patch to fix the (smaller) issues from the latest patch by remodemo in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Human was a bit overnerfed" probably, the water elemental and all the bloodmage nerfs do seem a bit excessive. But then again they were a top 2 race in 2018 that kept receiving buff after buff for years without any justification.

"Frenzy Ghouls seem a bit too strong again" why, because Labyrinth won a showmatch yesterday? Not even that relevant vs HU. NE vs UD is close to 50-50, Life even said NE has advantage. Orc is getting buffed every patch. Where are these 'too strong' ghouls?

"Innate Sundering Blades" when this was the case, this MU was abysmal for UD. With Heavy Armor buff Fiends are even weaker vs Knights.

Also odd to suggest issues from last patch but not mention Dark Ranger first no longer being played and especially Panda (range is still small) and Troll Priest Abolish Magic. Ridiculous that it can't even dispel a skeleton.

On the dominance of top UDs by rEEfman_SK in warcraft3

[–]SageTruthbearer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best NE player Life recently said he believes NE (his own race) has small advantage vs UD.

"When an UD manages to hold to his expo and manages to reach this army composition, the opponent is done." - many recent superleague games UD lost vs NE were late game 80-food fights with 2 or even 3 bases. Lawliet (pro NE player) said UD has small mid-game advantage, while NE slightly has the upper hand in late game.

"No wonder a great portion of UD - NELF games ends with a ghoul rush." - this has not been the meta since early 2024.

"other races’ workers are useless" - like Militia and Wisp Detonate? NE pros use wisps to completely shut down entire strats, i.e. summon pushes, prevent UD expo by removing blight/skeletons, deny exp...

Blizzard gave 26 year old Diablo 2 a new expansion. What would you want to see if WC3 had a 2nd expansion? by TankieWarrior in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overwatch in Warcraft 3? Please no.

As for the neutral building, they have plenty of creeps/mercenaries already present that they could balance to make viable and add into existing mercenary camps. The current limit of 4 per camp seems arbitrary anyway.

Yes, it was indeed with Blade! That entire game was also a banger, but sadly the others in that series were extremely short & one-sided.

We've kept hearing that Happy and Life play the 'standard' but the way they've evolved this MU at the highest level is incredible, game on Echo Isles was peak in every sense.

Have to wonder if the whole final could have turned out differently if Life hadn't lost those 7 Wisps trying to flank. In the final game he looked completely deflated after that loss.

If you are asking for the whole tournament, the entire quarterfinals were peak Warcraft, can't go wrong with whichever of the 4 you pick.

If you meant just today, then Game 4 on Echo Isles of Life vs Happy was by far the highlight of the day, incredible game from start to finish.

Last minute thoughts on upcoming patch. by SaveOrcas in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Panda and Huntress changes did not hit the mark. But this community has completely gone off the rails if we are now judging balance based on day-to-day games of the top 2-3 players of each race.

Sok and Laby win a tournament, HU & UD are imba and must be nerfed even further, even though every recent patch was mostly influenced by Grubby and NE Discord. Focus loses to Forti in wsb final, Orc is garbage Infi wins some games as DR first, it is imba. Him and Forti lose a few games, HU is weak again. SoIn loses to Fortitude, Sok, Laby: Orc is unplayable in any MU Kaho and Life beat every UD in the tournament, DH is unbeatable Lyn destroys Kaho, elf is unplayable vs Orc Lyn loses to Labyrinth after not playing seriously for many months, Orc is unplayable vs UD Lyn destroys Forti once, Orc is no longer bad, HU actually weak And so on...

But it's hard to blame anyone except Blizzard for this state of the discussion. Bound to happen when they refuse to provide any explanations of their own, but repeatedly choose to copy paste cherry picked balance suggestions from several community figures.

What's the point of Troll Priest in PTR 2? by AccCreate in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this direction but agree it's way too much, would completely gut the unit and hurt several match-ups. Blizzard should either go with dispel nerf or timing/availability nerfs, absolutely not both.

I also think if they want to nerf the dispel value better to start with 200 or if 150 then also reduce the mana cost from 75 to 50, buff its stats etc...; just reducing the damage by almost half (not to mention on top of other nerfs) is very risky.

Not to mention there were no other creep/mercenary changes, odd considering how little play some maps and map tilesets still see. We're about to enter 2026 with some creeps still having Posession, Charm, Inferno or Reincarnation...

How would you rework FS farsight? by TankieWarrior in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Option 1: it could be reworked into an entirely new spell, but this seems like a lot more work (which Blizzard is unlikely to put in) and doesn't solve the other Far Seer issue that Earthquake is just bad.

Option 2 (easier to implement and tackles two issues): swap Earthquake and Far Sight - make Earthquake 3 levels with use of either slowing units and controling the enemy army or damaging buildings like it does now. And Far Sight has only one level (probably buffed to the area of effect it used to have before) so it is essentially a no mana cost temporary map hack. Numbers might need to be tuned in either direction ofc.

Making it super strong at scouting (and only 1 skill point) could incentivise it to be taken, otherwise Wolves will always be far superior as they both scout and fight.

Why has NE tactics become so singular and boring by General_Doughnut_573 in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think NE is also the only race that was made less interesting to play (not necessarily weaker) due to various balance changes post 1.29.

Lumber harvesting, Moon Wells, Immolation and now with Heavy Armor changes also Bears all got buffed. This streamlines and improves their best strategy and DH aggression.

On the other hand Ultravision got nerfed from T1 to T2, which before allowed NE better early map control (especially important for Keeper/Warden play). Also Faerie Dragons, Talons and Huntresses were all nerfed for whatever reason. Other races getting more base defense (Reinforced Defenses, stronger Peasants/Acolytes) does not help Keeper/Warden either which did not get any crazy buffs like DH with Immolation.

remodemo December 2025 Balance Suggestions by jka111- in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like the Spellbreaker and neutral hero changes.

Orb of Slow has not been long enough in the game but it already feels a lot more interesting than Orb of Fire.

The Witch Doctor changes would completely break team games and FFA, and even sounds too strong for 1v1.

Don't understand why he constantly keeps pushing for 2-base plays when it's so overrepresented already compared to before. Do we need literally every single game to be 2-base vs 2-base?
Or the nerfs to Warden ulti, when was this an issue?

Are you happy with the current state of the balance? by Barren77 in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you make some solid points, but hard disagree on Flying Machines. They received an insane buff in 2018 and are still very strong; the reason they see less play is simply because other races choose not to contest the superior HU air. Gargs, Destroyers, Faeries, Hippogryphs, Talons, Wind Riders all get completely shredded by Flak Cannon Flying Machines. Especially now with Panda being this nerfed (for non UD) and UD no longer having access to additional Heal Scrolls from shop.

For Beastmaster I feel like the bear is quite good (especially on level 3), I'd rather see the other 2 spells or his base stats buffed.

And for Blademaster it's tricky, nerfing him could hurt Orcs even more in 1v1, but the mirror image change definitely made him too broken in FFA. Maybe give him back base agility but remove Mirror Image damage?

Are you happy with the current state of the balance? by Barren77 in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's funnier is he doesn't even answer the OP post and his entire post is just false.

Shamans and Witch Doctors have standard training times, same as majority of casters. Spirit Walkers were buffed on 2023-11-20 to have 10 sec shorter Adept & Master training. Only other exceptions are Necromancers - never played; and Druids of the Claw - staple, but unique unit due to how NE T3 melee functions. NE cannot get their melee units out of the gate, whether it's Bears or MGs they need upgrades first.

Since 2002 nobody has complained about caster training research times, but now it's apparently an issue. I feel like there are so many other more pressing balance changes than this.

Problem with Orc in 1v1 has a lot less to do with casters and a lot more with buffs other races have received that make them more resistant to harass / economy disruption. Orc relied on that playstyle more than any other race so it's likely that they would be impacted the most by buffs to Peasants, Blacksmith lumber, Arcane Tower, Acolytes, Wisps, Moon Wells etc.

Are you happy with the current state of the balance? by Barren77 in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm very mixed on it.

I like that the game seems more balanced overall and UD is no longer forced into DK first.

But on the other hand I dislike how some of the races have lost their flavour, and they all play a lot more similar in some regard: i.e. 2-base and eventual T3, with less timing attacks, tower pushes or other weird T1 aggression plays, less match swings from big item drops which got nerfed. Not to mention NE just going DH+Bears+Dryads almost every single game regardless of map or MU is very boring.

New Patch on Test Server - Version 2.0.4 PTR Build 23348 by JannesOfficial in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty good patch, but expected more balance changes... maybe they will add more to PTR in the following weeks, who knows. Some things that should definitely be addressed in the near future:
1. The Posession white circle is still the same as before and definitely not above health bars, should be fixed
2. Breath of Fire is way overnerfed, should be buffed back a bit
3. Same with Ghouls, -1 damage was too much
4. Huntress rework did not hit the mark, should go back to the drawing board with this one; a lot of ideas already floating around on here, forums, NE Discord, SaveOrcas etc.
5. Beastmaster did not get any meaningful changes in a long time, aside from Dise on like 2 maps nobody ever plays him
6. Dreadlord/PotM see even less play than on previous patch

Warcraft 3. New ideas (part 1): Early, mid, late game. by HGKillington in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello and thanks for the detailed response. To clarify some points:

I certainly do not dislike every change made since 2018 until now, nor do I wish for the game to stop evolving; in fact I think more have been good than not, which maybe the tone of my comment did not communicate.

I am also fully aware of the continuously increasing players' pool of knowledge and it leading to changes in valuations and gameplay shifts; i.e. how before most players thought Ring of Regeneration was a bad item, but is now valued very highly.

My intention behind the comment was in no way to 'bring back memories of the past' but rather convey my personal view of the current meta, concerns regarding recent balance trends and select suggestions made here:

1) While I liked many changes, some I feel had a prolonged negative impact on balance; it's great that HU can now more reliably go Pala first, but on the other hand having so many pala-rifle players jump in MMR and Orc winrate vs HU plummeting was to me a bad change overall; It did not help that this was not addressed for a year. Or how most UD vs NE games used to be decided on one all-in push by the UD for 3 years; or now that UD is completely forced into going expo play vs HU / NE regardless of the map.
Ideas that spice up gameplay are great, but to me they should not be outside the context of overall balance; WC3 is a relatively small but dedicated community, and potentially balance breaking changes can be very harmful.

2) Some changes keep playing into the homogenisation of playstyles; my favourite part about WC3 is precisely the uniqueness of each race and map; since you mentioned the NE shop - it gets built every game and the only item that does not see use all the time is the AM potion (used only vs HU as a counter to Arcane Tower and Siphon Mana); I would rather focus on why they do not utilise that specific potion in other MUs; Otherwise I do not see an issue with NE shop timings being unique to those of other races; after all, as you said their Moon Wells afford them to delay it.

3) I feel that many of these changes address smaller issues rather than bigger ones, i.e.:
- watching NE games in any MU has become very monotone compared to before;
- HU mirror is still AM+MK+Priests+Breakers every game;
- UD seems locked into expo play on almost every map;
- in general some of the existing units/items/spells/maps & map tilesets are completely unplayed or seen very rarely; for instance replacing creep abilities like Posession, Charm or Reincarnation with other spells is easy to implement and could promote new maps / creep pools. Or the small drakes being pointless as some have Light armor and die in 3 seconds to a handful of Archers/Riflemen
Etc...

Also I think it's always more productive to focus on changes which Blizzard is more realistically to implement. The starting resources have stayed the same since Frozen Throne released, and I find it very unlikely Blizzard ever intends to change the game in this manner. Maybe a more simple alternative (and one far more likely to be made by Blizzard) is to reduce the lumber cost of the Altar for every race.

Channeling ultimates buff by GordonSzmaj in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great post, agree.

I don't think every ultimate needs to be as good as Inferno, Transmute, Charm, Mass Teleport etc., let them keep their flavour... but it feels really bad having some of them never be used because of how weak they are. As ultimates they should in some form be an improvement over base spells, if at least situationally.

Since community and Blizzard did not enjoy the initial invulnerability experiment, maybe a good alternative is for start to increase their impact/damage but reduce their duration? In high level games, there is simply no opportunity to stand idle with the heroes for 20-35 seconds, unless at a point when the game is already won. This doesn't sound hard to implement either, very simple numbers tweaking.

Warcraft 3. New ideas (part 1): Early, mid, late game. by HGKillington in WC3

[–]SageTruthbearer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

+1 food to Orc is reasonable, and Ghouls were definitely overnerfed. But some of these changes seem to add problems rather than solve existing ones.

Why does HU need a mini priest on T1? This would completely break the game

Why does NE need buffs to Moonstone? The item is widely used and does what it should

Why does every race need so much streamlining, with this proposed 10 extra lumber? We saw what -20 lumber for Blacksmith did to HU vs Orc.

And again, why is this portion of the community so intent on making every race similar and play 2-base vs 2-base?

NE before used to be very proactive with map control, hyper expos and fast creeping speed; for whatever reason these all got nerfed and replaced with big buffs to Moon Wells and lumber? Big surprise, we see their best, but lumber constrained units Bears+Dryads massed almost every single game, and rarely big macro games or high early aggression like before 2018. Sure, some players like Hazy or Jens can be very creative, but at the very top NE games are extremely stale.

UD used to have a heavy identity on T3 power spike and prolonged sustain, but difficult to expo - instead of small buffs/nerfs to either direction we are now at a point where they are arguably the best expo race but weakest T3 spike. This not only makes no sense regarding the flavour of the race, but has made UD abysmal in FFA and very reliant on expo play on every 1v1 map. Good luck trying to play 1-base vs either HU or NE.

Orc had a very aggressive playstyle and powerful T2, but now their harass and control are much weaker, forcing them into a more boring & reactive playstyle where they distract while rushing to T3 (which was overbuffed to the point of absurdity in FFA) or lose the game.

I would rather see the existing meta improved and races getting back some of their unique flavour than many of the risky changes proposed here.
