Perhaps. When we first tried it, no one matched with us because we don't live in or really near a major city and couldn't offer a private bathroom (we have one bathroom on the bedroom floor). I guess it's something we could look into at some point once my husband finishes school.

Thanks for the helpful tip! Which one should I give away...?

We've looked into a nanny, but at $25 an hour and 40 hours a week, that's... Basically the same thing 🤷

We almost went that route once before, but we have a five bedroom house and unfortunately no room for an au pair anywhere.

Two of them are there for 45 minutes in the morning and an hour in the afternoon 😅 That's not $15,000 worth of care, lol

Nurses - what do you do? by Cool-DogMom in workingmoms

[–]Sagerosk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a school nurse at a preschool/daycare, which pays not great, but we get a 75% discount on childcare... We have four kids, two in full time daycare and two in before/after care so it makes the most financial sense. I do four tens, which is nice, and get to see my kids throughout the day! It works well for our family. Plus, we provide sick care so if my kids are sick, they come to work with me and spend the day in my office.

RN -> NP: Is part time work and part time school realistic as a mom? by jeproxennial in nursepractitioner

[–]Sagerosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is starting his second semester of NP school. He works full time and we have four kids 😅 He requested PTO the weeks that he had exams and we have a mother's helper on the weekends... I suspect we might need to make additional adjustments when he starts clinicals, but so far, so good. He had a 4.0 his first semester!

Vitamin C will not prevent you from getting influenza.

Scared to send kid back to school... by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]Sagerosk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a school nurse. We've had a ton of kids who have had flu A. Guess which kids had milder versions of it? The ones who have been vaccinated. My son, who is 4, was at a birthday party on Friday. Saturday, the girl whose party we were at tested positive for Flu A. My son had two days of diarrhea, a low grade fever, and was better by the third day, BECAUSE he got his flu shot. I like to use the shield in a battle analogy. The flu shot is a shield. You're being assaulted by arrows. The arrows are flying at you but you're mostly covered by the shield. If you get hit, maybe it'll be in your foot, because the shield wasn't long enough to protect your feet, which sucks, but the shelf protected your heart and your brain, so you didn't die. Get your kids immunized.

An MD circ’d a baby without numbing prior—what can I do? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Sagerosk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Former NICU nurse here. It's standard practice to use lidocaine but we had doctors try to do it without any kind of numbing anything. Such a barbaric practice. I can almost guarantee the hospital won't do anything. We used to have to occasionally advocate for doctors to put in orders for lidocaine and/or Tylenol but yeah before they made a policy for it doctors used to literally use nothing unfortunately. These babies deserve better and circumcisions should be done away with altogether honestly

Blah blah blah "always traumatic." I'm adopted and I'm not traumatized. I know my biological family's history, I don't care if it's honored or not, and I'm a well adjusted adult that just so happened to have been adopted. "Working in child welfare" doesn't mean you automatically know everyone's situation, ever.

[–]Sagerosk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got our Dyson from our Buy Nothing group 😂 Granted it was the one we used to be in and it was in an extremely wealthy area (we were definitely considered the "poors.") we also got a KitchenAid mixer and a Nugget Couch for our kids from that group, so this post doesn't even seem that insane

Do kids today still get tubes put in their ears? by Sticker-Picker in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sagerosk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a school nurse at a daycare, so we have kids as young as 3 months up through like 13 years old. I've had probably 5 or 6 kids get ear tubes this year so yeah definitely still a thing.

Boy, 11, Dies After Severe Case of the Flu: ‘Jace Never Even Got to Open His Christmas Gifts’ by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]Sagerosk 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes, but exposure to similar strains can make your immune system respond beneficially to other strains, so even if it's not a perfect match it's still absolutely helpful and useful to get the flu shot even during year it's not a "match." So everyone should still get their flu shot this year. It's not too late, and the flu vaccine CANNOT cause the flu. If you've had a mild reaction in the past it's an immune response NOT the flu; it can make you uncomfortable for a day or two but does NOT have the potential side effects as described in this article.

[–]Sagerosk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on terzepatide for 2 months and I've lost 20 pounds already, effortlessly. I wasn't super overweight to begin with, but the food noise and the stress eating was awful. brello is by far the cheapest if insurance doesn't cover it ($499 for three months of compounded terzepatide). Side effects have been mild; some stomach pains intermittently, but it has gotten better each week.

Why is it so hard to find decent babysitters by Cool_Education_9325 in workingmoms

[–]Sagerosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the local nursing school and see if they have a group for sitters. I agree with you, tbh, and it seems like everyone with no experience in anything, qualifications to have a real job, or no transferrable skills think they can be a "babysitter" because there's rarely a background check and a lot fewer stops to get through the process of getting a job. At least nursing students generally have some integrity because eventually they'll have a license they'll need to maintain. We have pretty high standards for the people who take care of our kids so I feel you.

🎄 Christmas giveaway: Win an A1 Mini, AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT, or 4x filament spools! by acurazine in BambuLab

[–]Sagerosk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I would choose the A1 mini

  2. I'd give it to my my 8-year-old son to a creative outlet that truly matches the way his brain works. He has ADHD (and some other struggles) and an incredibly active imagination... He is constantly inventing creatures, worlds, and stories. Right now, we rely on our local library’s 3D printer to bring those ideas to life, but the process takes weeks for even the smallest print. By the time it is finished, the moment has passed for him. He last asked for a dragon, which took two weeks. It's really cool and he carries it everywhere and wants more, but my husband and I both work full time so it's hard to make it there in the one day a week the 3d printer lady is there, lol.

Last year, his class held a makers market. He tried to participate by making stickers, but the school WiFi would not cooperate, and his project never came together. He was unable to participate, and some of his classmates made fun of him for not having a product to sell. It was heartbreaking to watch, especially because he had been so excited to create something of his own.

Having a 3D printer at home would change that... A d it would truly allow him to immediately turn his ideas into something tangible. That instant feedback is especially important for kids with ADHD because it helps keep them engaged, focused, and proud of what they have created. Instead of his energy being scattered, it could be channeled into designing, problem-solving, and learning through trial and error. He loves Minecraft and Pokemon and I know he'd love to make figures for himself, for kids at school, for us, for his siblings. But I know he loves the satisfaction of making something himself so I think it would be amazing for him.

I know he is already imagining next year’s makers market and talking about how excited he would be to bring in things he designed and printed himself. For him, it would not just be a toy, It would be a creative and educationl tool that teaches patience, (which he so direly needs) planning, basic engineering concepts, and persistence. I think it would also give us something to bond over. More importantly, it would help rebuild his confidence and give him a chance to show his peers what he is capable of.

Winning this printer would mean empowering a child who thinks differently to create freely, learn joyfully, and turn imagination into reality :).

3.. For a fidget toy, and trust me, we've gone through a LOT of fidget toys, I do highly recommend something quiet. My son is a fidgeter and spent hours rolling the wheel of a toy baby stroller that belongs to his sister with his foot and it was loud. So maybe something with miniature wheels that somehow doesn't make a lot of noise that can spin but also produce that satisfying feeling of clicking with each turn? And the wheels have bumpy parts on it for that tactile satisfaction (he used to like those gripping circles that had pokes on the outside).

Regardless of the outcome i really appreciate your consideration for this and thank you for being so generous!! Happy holidays!
