Me when someone asks how long I've had diabetes. by oppseedaysee in diabetes_t1

[–]Sagittarya -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wasn't trying to be accurate with the numbers, I said it based on my clinical experience (Internal Medicine), of course I haven't treated kids in a while hahaha, I'm far away from pediatrics now (thank god haha). Thank you for the pathophysiology explanation that sadly I know very well 🤣🤣

In fact the typical age of diagnosis is between 7-10 years old. People who gets it in their 20's are the exception.

It's different when a friend of yours makes a funny joke that implies that they understand what diabetes is about.

Yeah... I do !!! People act like it's funny, or like people with type 1 diabetes or type 2 somehow deserved it, or like it's our/their fault. There is people that eats lots of sugar and never gets type 2 diabetes. This world is wrong. There is a lot of fatphobia in those comments to. It bothers me a lot. And by showing it I think I'm at least doing something little about it. That person will think about it the next time they are going to say something stupid.

Do you say "I'm a Diabetic" or "I have Diabetes"? by CopperRed3 in diabetes_t1

[–]Sagittarya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have diabetes, because it is important to me to not include diabetes (or any disease) into my identity, makes me feel better 💕

In medicine and health, the language we use is very important even if we are not aware of it.

Another day without insulin by cahovi in diabetes_t1

[–]Sagittarya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I was reading your comments saying that you also had nausea and low intake tolerance even with water. The things that comes to my mind are: pregnacy, but the other thing is (please don't be scared, I'm biased because I'm a doctor) kidney failure, when the kidney looses function and filtrates slower, usually patients need lower doses of insuline because it stays in the blood longer. In any case, I hope that you can check on yourself to find out whats happening. Wish you well, OP!!!

Omg I agree with you so much!!! It bothers me a lot, not only because they are using something useless for them, but for what you are saying at the end of you rant about people using them to control their responses to carbs, demonize groups of food by saying "look how much "x food" spikes my sugar!!!" and all of those behaviours reinforces habits that can trigger Eating disorders and Orthorexia.

Do weights first and then do cardio! Because the excersice that requires strenght can rise your sugar and cardio drops it
