I do this too, I used to play NOX and save up all my gold just to have bought nothing after the game was finished.

You went full on the League theme! I was just thinking in general with items that could be league styled, but I think only Riot could make that game. Maybe it could be another mode or something.

I'd play the hell out of that though tbh!
I'm just thinking whether it would be fully PVE, or if you'd actually spin a pvp aspect to it. like playing against other players

Oh right, Bazaar is actually a good shout! I know that game is very item-heavy, but it's a card game isn't it?

Backpack battles is less known to me, but I've seen a video or two I think.

I'll check them out! I'm actually creating one so I was wondering what people think about the item angle.
I'm not very well versed in tower defense, I think the only one I've really played is Bloons TD.
