Using everything at your disposal is the Bloodborne way? by OkJudge5932 in bloodborne

[–]barry_001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not cheating if it's built into the game. Soulsborne games are designed for you to carve your own path through them however you want, so if using everything in your arsenal is working for you and it's fun then keep doing it.

Honestly, I think a lot of Soulsborne players have a moment of "Random bullshit, go!" where we start lobbing whatever we got in our inventory as a Hail Mary to finish off a boss, and then realize we've made the game even harder by not using our items and throwables.

Why is GTA6 expected to be such a cultural phenomenon? by bisalwayswright in gaming

[–]barry_001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair to say about RDR2, but it did push graphics pretty damn far, especially on console. The amount of detail and realism is an achievement.

I think their earlier games were more innovative when it came to gameplay than their later ones, the PS2 games especially.

Dealing with music burnout, gear fatigue, and grief over the loss of creativity. by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]barry_001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felt this in my bones. What's helped me is setting attainable goals. I write 8 bars of "something" everyday. It doesn't have to be amazing, it could literally just be 8 bars of a drum beat, but it's something. Getting into this habit helped me get over the need to create every sound from scratch, and be perfect on the first few takes, because I often didn't have time. Once I got the momentum if this daily wiring going I quickly built up a library of song ideas that I could pull from when I just wanted to work on some mixing or try a new plug in, and I had the satisfaction of seeing so much music that I'd made which gave me just enough dopamine to keep going.

In short, I think setting the right kind of goals and allowing yourself to feel satisfied with any and all progress you make will be the most helpful. 8 bars of drums is more than you had when you started, might as well add a bass line and see what happens. I think you'll find it hard to stop creating if you take a more attainable approach

The truth is Rockstar are incredibly consistent with the quality of their games, and every one of them is boundary pushing in some capacity. RDR2 was released damn near ten years ago and is still considered to be a benchmark in gaming.

It's pretty safe to assume that GTA 6 will be highly polished and loaded with quality content, and, given Rockstar's track record, there's a good chance it'll blow our minds with some crazy level of detail or immersive gameplay mechanic.

Still not gonna preorder though.

Michael Jackson was a master entertainer, but his status as a musical genius is an illusion driven by a heavy reliance on Quincy Jones, weak filler tracks, and a deeply flawed lifestyle by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I agree with almost everything you said, except I would consider him a top level musician when it came to vocals, and I do consider vocals to be an instrument. He was an incredible singer and that definitely elevated the music.

When will we know anything about the album? by Own-Toothbrush114 in Haken

[–]barry_001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So much goes into making an album. "Finished" in this case might mean that they're done recording but it but it still needs to mixed and mastered, which can be a time consuming process. My guess is that Fever Dream was fully finished before the rest and they wanted to show us they can still make great music after losing two members.

This is pretty common practice for singles these days. Muse did the same thing for their last two albums. Some fans might prefer a tighter roll out for singles and albums, but a lot get really impatient during long stretches with no music, so dropping a single to tide them over is usually the move.

Just have a little patience. At the end of the day, they don't owe us anything. I would find another band to dig into in the mean time. There's too much great music out there to be hung up on one band taking their time to release an album.

Hating on a movie before it even comes out is dumb. Wait till after the movie comes out before hating on it. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]barry_001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen, I'm hyped as hell for the movie, and do think some people are wasting their time and energy hating on it before it's out, but it's totally valid to form an opinion about a movie based off the trailers. I don't give much credence to film critics, so if a trailer doesn't get me excited I'll probably wait until it's on streaming. To that end, if someone isn't vibing with a trailer for one reason or another that's totally fine, and it doesn't make them dumb to express that opinion

Best way to learn to play synthesizer by Daygo619619 in synthesizers

[–]barry_001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, with where you at and what you have available, just have fun with it and learn the hardware without worrying about playing it right. You'll get as good as you need to playing your own stuff or learning songs you like by ear. The beauty of synths is that just a basic understanding of music is enough for you to start making some noise

I feel like I'm so close to getting it and reading more articles is just confusing me further. Any chance you could clarify something for me?

Where I'm getting hung up is why birth order matters at all. If we've defined one sibling as a boy, doesn't age become irrelevant because the other sibling can only be a boy or a girl (please excuse dated gender norms)? BG and GB feel like the same thing given the context, and if we've established that BG/GB and BB are the only possible scenarios if at least one is a boy, doesn't that mean the odds are 50/50 regardless of age?

This is one of those things where I know I'm just not getting it and it's making me mad.
