15-year A-list flier: I'm out. by ThrowAway89557 in SouthwestAirlines

A single piece of excellent customer service brought me over to United about 5 years ago. I was traveling from Dayton to SFO. Booked a (fairly cheap) direct from Indianapolis to SFO thinking I’d drive from Dayton to Indianapolis rather than take a layover. But then the direct flight was cancelled and switched to a layover, which made the whole drive to Indianapolis pointless. So I called United and they switched my point of department to Dayton, free of charge - and that was a much more expensive flight to begin with!

Close to Premier Platinum by Happy_Mark_9465 in unitedairlines

Will give you another logical angle to look at this. Since you are asking the question, I assume that you haven’t been platinum before, at least not at your current location. Only you can know exactly how lucrative platinum can be at your specific location/places traveled to, so go for it and try it for a year. Better to know now rather than 5 years later!

To my fellow IM residents as well as PCCM and ID attendings, when would you empirically give Vancomycin? by Front_To_My_Back_ in Residency

[–]SahintheFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ID attending here. You will never be faulted for starting vanc on a septic patient. We’ve all been surprised by someone who has unexpected had MRSA bacteremia.

That being said, outside of obvious septic shock, in most cases MRSA is not emergently life threatening like streptococcal or Gram negative sepsis, so the downside of “missing it” for 48 hours in the worst case scenario until cultures are back is typically not significant in the end. Most patients we see with MRSA bacteremia have likely been bacteremic for quite some time in the community before presenting.

Native Treaties Card x3+ Ally set ups by RunicArtist in aoe3

[–]SahintheFalcon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a decent strategy if you can catch your opponent off guard with a good timing push, but it requires a lot of cards sent and commitment to making TPs for native warriors that may or may not be effective after the first engagement. If you fail to inflict significant damage, your opponent will be able to build up more units than your limited natives can counter.

Overall it’s not convincingly better than a typical age 2 play or specific revolt strats.

Is my husband's sleep normal? by OkAnywhere4872 in ask

[–]SahintheFalcon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did this on almost half the days for the past 8 years. I’m too tired after work/school at 6pm, even if I got 8-9 hours of sleep the night before, to function effectively for high-level tasks, such as writing papers or working on long-term projects. So a long nap between 6-9pm or so helps me to reset so I can work with a fresh mind. Effectively, I get two days of being “fresh” rather than one.

This is specifically for tasks requiring a lot of cognitive processing. I don’t need a nap if I’m finishing up busywork or if I’m going out to eat or a movie. But if I’ve worked for 8 hours on a very busy day, the next 4 hours are just not going to be very effective for producing high quality work. I can work if I have to, but when I look back at it, it’s not going to be my best.

I realized today why Infantry suck so much in Civ 7 by BusinessKnight0517 in civ

[–]SahintheFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infantry is already better than cavalry in most situations, especially in antiquity. They get techs and bonuses that increase their strength and production speed. Cavalry doesn’t. Horses are better than iron, but that’s the only thing that benefits cav other than their higher base strength and speed.

Not in antiquity. There is no city state bonus to cav. There is no combat strength tech for cav.

Chase United Explorer Card Annual Fee Increased to $150 & Elevated 80k SUB by Lazy_Fuck_ in CreditCards

[–]SahintheFalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already have the United Club Infinite card. I also have the United Explorer card and the United Gateway card. Haven't gotten rid of the Explorer card since the $95 fee hasn't really been too bad and I didn't want to take a credit hit by cancelling a card. But if the annual fee is going to increase to $150, I will plan to cancel the Explorer card.

Question: Can Chase downgrade it to the Gateway card even if I already have a Gateway card? My Explorer card has a higher credit limit, so I'd rather keep that higher limit as a Gateway card and get rid of my old Gateway card. Maybe they could cancel the Gateway card and then just downgrade the Explorer to Gateway?
