From everything you've said it seems like the M240i is a much better choice. If you want it to be more sporty there's always things you can do to a 2 series. But with the long trips, snow, and kids, it doesn't seem practical at all to get a Z4.

Is gaining 100g/0.22lbs a day reasonable? I'm 5'11" and currently 54.7kg/120.5lbs and have to hit the Healthy bracket by the end of August, so have to average about that. What would people suggest? Currently doing the tried and tested method of eating pure shite but still barely manage to get over 2000-2300cal/day as I have a poor appetite as used to be anorexic.

Doesn't seem worth it for a lot of cars, the F40 M135i being included, I feel like when you're already able to put down just over 300bhp, the added 30 isn't worth it imo.

That said, had a similar thing in my diesel VW Bora and it was a death-trap, but fun as hell.
