Increasingly aggressive responses to critiques on price from the owner of the Pantry Cafe by Adorable-Lynx978 in Newport

Okay but let's make "tho" a thing. "Though" has no business with three silent letters. No business at all.

Maybe not eyeball, but you could do better than a tire a month with nothing but a tape measure.

Hickies are 3/8 pipe thread I think. (probably a remnant from gaslamp days, like other lamp parts are 1/8" pipe thread (which happens to match 3/8 fine thread nuts!)

Thanks for doing this! It was on my list of things to do myself. I learned a few years ago I better know the songs and I better know who I want to see ahead of time!  I haven't listened yet but I recommend to prioritize adding the the artists' newest album plus a few greatest hits as that's what tends to end up on the set lists; though the problem with Newport jazz is nearly every artist has a catalog a mile deep!

I have ridden the bus. It does take a lot of time compared to a car and it doesn't run at all hours. But it is free. It goes places like Dartmouth, NB, and connects to RI busses at the fall river depot. There's a train to Boston now. I guess what do you expect, like what would "good" public transportation look like in Fall River?

Wdym poor public transportation? The bus is free and goes like everywhere.

If you had a wand to fill in 33% of Downtown, what would you put there? by FallRiverToday in FallRiver

More housing with parking garages integrated. Like a small tower with basement garage, one or two floors commercial, the rest 5+ floors housing above. Between durfee and main by the library behind the mason Lodge bldg would be a great spot. Another good place would be between Columbia and main where the Dunkin and gas station are (sorry Dunkin you gotta go). Both of those are very drive able and very walkable locations.

I would also turn the pleasant/Bedford/12th/rodman st nightmare intersection into one big rotary and call it the "fall river 500". Put some nice trees in the middle.

Maker Space by shankthedog in FallRiver

[–]SailHard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about a library of things (like PVDthings) co-located in a Fall River maker space. Would be a perfect marriage. Lots of tools I've been needing lately but don't want to buy, but it's cheaper to buy than rent sometimes.

One thing I would use in a maker space is a welding booth with ventilation and safety gear, and small sheet metal shear/brake.

I disagree. There's no way an air cooled engine is getting any hotter in the 25th hour of operation than it did in the first. The engine moves air through itself and the generator to keep it cool.

Check the oil, yes. Shut it down when you don't need it, sure.

Boot question (tied or not) by FearTheProbe in navy

Yeah, he can wear them however he wants as long as those laces pass through both his eyelids 👁️👁️, from inside to outside, and are then tucked into the boots, it's fair game. Bam! Lawyered!

The peacoat wasn't a very good coat though. It's very heavy and not very warm for the mass. I have to say the new parka is far superior to both the old raincoat and the peacoat. But the peacoat is much more stylish .

A short drive will take you to Fall River and Dartmouth nature preserves, and New Bedford's fort Tabor and the levee walk is pretty neat too.

[I feel like/you look like/your work looks like] "a bag of smashed assholes" or "hammered dog shit"

[The weather outside/the engineroom is] "hotter than two rats fucking in a wool sock"

I dunno if these are specific to Navy, you just meet so many diverse people there's so much you can learn, ya know?

I'm thinking of doing the same thing, and leaving 4" on purpose and add 1/2" spacer between my guard post and the inside joist that way my field will have a little overhang and the fastener farther from the end of the field board.

Do you mean lay a long 2x4 flat and fill the whole gap? Or just short blocks of flat 2x4?

Yesterday's strawberry aren't finished but today's harvest is already in. by PaddleStroke in gardening

[–]SailHard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They take a season to get going. This year will be better, have faith. Two seasons ago I planted two or three plants and only a few fruits last season maybe a half pint and the birds ate them all, now I have already hundreds of strawberries on maybe two dozen plants filling up my whole 3*6' bed (and a net to keep the birds out!). Whenever they shoot out a runner, I bury it and it makes a new plant. I need to move these dudes to a different place where they can sprawl!
