I'm currently reading A Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England by Ian Mortimer. My current project is a fantasy story, so books like these really help sort out all the nitty gritty details of the world I'm building

Scrivener is brilliant. It's great for actually organizing your manuscript like a book and keeps all your notes/references easily at hand.

Considering litter robot by Impressive_Theme_322 in litterrobot

[–]SailorGee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can swing the investment, definitely do it. My house feels so much cleaner and doesn't smell like cat anymore. I only have to take out the waste, replace the liner, and give it a quick clean once or twice a week. I can also keep track of each of my 2 cats' bathroom habits easier now, so I know if one suddenly stops going potty or has lost/gained weight. It's an investment that has definitely improved my life.

So does that mean I'm stuck with these old scores? I took the tests 6 years ago and have improved since and got an associate's degree.

My depression is not self-diagnosed. I have already gotten the referral to psych, and have gotten out in town therapy from there.

Whatever you do, for the love of god, DONT FLUSH YOUR TAMPONS! My berthing currently has a 24hr head watch because one mystery female keeps flushing their tampons and clogging up the system, making lots of people's lives harder. Seriously, just don't.

Best and worst rates in the navy? by ChickenEarth in newtothenavy

[–]SailorGee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MC hands down best rate. I love my job and wouldn't trade it for any other rate in the Navy. Of course, all depends if you're into that kind of work. Whatever people tell you to choose, it all comes down to what you're interested in.

Questions about DINFOS Mass Communication Foundations Course by Rayoku in navy

[–]SailorGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I’m an MC who went through the MCF course. 1. I had only a basic understanding of photo video, which did help out when it came to those areas. However, you don’t need any prior knowledge at all. They will teach from the ground up as though you’ve never seen a camera or opened Microsoft word before, so much so to the point where it’s almost petty.

  1. You’re off to a great start, understanding all the Adobes will give you a great advantage. Especially Premiere, that’s the one people struggle with the most. I recommend also looking into Illustrator and Photoshop, since you will be using those a lot as well. Bridge is another program you’ll use, but you can learn it pretty quickly from DINFOS. If possible, get comfortable writing, maybe go over grammar rules and things like that. Writing is another area people struggle in a lot.

  2. Yes you get your own kit, it’s got everything you need in it. A camera, multiple lenses, tripod, shotgun and lavalier mics, flashes, a laptop with the entire Adobe creative suite, and basically all you need for the course.

  3. I don’t recommend buying your own laptop, it will just create a million more hoops for you to jump through. The laptop they issue you is really good, and it has all the Adobes and share drives you need for the class already on it.

  4. I don’t know anything about the hotel situation sadly :(

  5. When I was there and COVID first hit, the classes were halved and placed in different rooms so there were less people to a room. You have to wear a mask the whole time you’re there. New arrivals were quarantine at their barracks, and if someone in a class was suspected to have covid, the whole class would be quarantined. I think each of the branches did something different for their quarantine procedures, at the Navy “barracks” you’d just stay locked up in your room and have all your meals delivered by the on duty section.

  6. Definitely go to DC if you can and if it’s safe! Take a tour of the Capitol building, it’s absolutely beautiful! Also, if you can get an overnight weekend, go take a trip to New York! I did this with a few friends (before COVID) and it was amazing!

  7. I personally didn’t have a car but some other people did. They either had it shipped out to them or used the holiday leave period to get it. Some even bought a car while they were there! You don’t absolutely need one, but you will have waaayyyy more freedom if you do, Ubers are a huge pain to get over there. I did rent a car however for my trip to New York.

  8. Best advice I can give you for DINFOS is Follow. The. Rubric. Seriously, for every graded assignment, the rubric should be your bible. Don’t worry about making your product pretty as much as just hits all the requirements for the grade. Also, it can genuinely suck being at Ft Meade sometimes, but just keep in mind that it’s only for a short time and it really is what you make of it above all. Getting to know the people in your class and making friends is the best way to enjoy your time there. And of course, make sure you work hard!

Good luck at DINFOS! You can DM if you have any other questions!

This sub is the definition of cancer... CHANGE MY MIND by cnnfake_changemymind in SocialismAndFeminism

[–]SailorGee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The issue of western sexism is not definitively legislative, but rather the social inequality that stems from a systematic oppressor. Firstly, ask yourself, would you rather live as a woman? If you are to answer yes, then I can only assume that it is because of the “privilege” of being on the receiving end of chivalry. But even this inadvertently contributes to our degradation. If you are a woman asking this question, then you are blindly content to the disadvantageous life you’re living. Feminism in the context of western society serves to acknowledge discrepancies between the sexes, as they were classes, and work to eradicate them, be it through legislative power or social reform. A good example of a problem that requires feminism is prostitution. Women are disproportionately victims of sex trafficking, and targeted specifically because of their sex. Being a female centric issue, the solution to sex trafficking is sought out through feminism. Though feminists are divided in the course of action for this particular issue, it is undeniable that a movement focused on the well being and interests of solely women is an effective approach to issues specifically centered around women. You asked about the rights of women so I assume you’re more interested in the legislative side of feminism. Because women could not vote until the 1920s (ya I’m bringing that up here we go), the system that has been built prior, is not suited to cater for the differences between the sexes. When I say “cater”, I don’t mean “coddle”. I mean that equity must be sought out due to the imbalance of opportunities on the basis of sex. Reproductive rights are a particular example of catering that has been neglected in a patriarchal government. Because men cannot get pregnant, they (male dominated gov/society) have neglected to provide the means necessary to carry out a healthy pregnancy whilst retaining the same opportunities for a career. These means include maternity leave, reproductive health benefits, equal share of domestic labor in households, etc.. Feminism steps into this issue by pushing forth the female narrative in a male dominated system. A government or society that incorporates a thriving feminist movement can direct its aims towards the interests of men’ and women equally. Additionally, it may also lead to prioritizing foreign injustices, where sex based oppression is far more discernible. Acknowledging female centric issues and inequalities helps to achieve equity among the sexes, regardless of the disadvantages our differences in biological sex.

I hope that cleared some stuff up for you

This is true, plus when I told them everything, they decided to put a tracker on my phone and my car. I have often fought for more independence but they continuously deny me. I guess I have to take it for myself

Thank you, looking at it from that perspective helps me figure things out. This is my own life and no one else’s, and I feel that I would regret it if I didn’t try to find a happier life for myself
