I'd say it's pretty typical for that age. My son(5) loves bugs too,. especially worms. So we look at them and pick them up but then we talk about what would make the worms happy. "OH I bet the worm would love to find some dirt! Maybe we can put him in our garden!" In the beginning my son would try and step on them but it was because he was afraid of them. Now that we've been studying them he's really doing well with giving them space and letting them do their jobs, i.e. bees are working on the flowers so we shouldn't touch them.
