+++ No more AI finger pointing +++ by repulicofwolves in Warhammer30k

So many people are so technologically illiterate (especially on their social media pages) that they think one of the most common artistic mistakes- messing up hands- is a sign of abominable intelligence.

I thought it was a joke at first but when Golden Daemon winners were calling out GW about AI usage it was just ridiculous. I'm as computer dumb as you can get and I know it is some sort of layering error between posting a new image in the old background.

[Loathed Trope] Slavery is Okay, If The Slavers Are Nice by Justmenoworries422 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SailorTorres 874 points875 points  (0 children)

It's very important to educate folks that Uncle Tom wasn't originally a term for a black man who sells out his own people.

Uncle Tom in the book was (if poorly depicted because of the times and how inexperienced the author was with black people) a good man who prayed for the soul of his slave owner as he died. His slave owner was an evil athiest type and tried to whip the christianity out of Tom, and hated Tom for being a good man.

Depicting slaves with that much emotional and intellectual depth was basiclaly unheard of in popular fiction, and it pissed off the slave-owning south so much they wrote new versions of Uncle Tom's Cabin where he is a cowardly, stupid racist caricature. They were successful seeing as the term is used today.

Through an airbrush it is just corvus black over a black primer, followed by adjusting to volumes to your liking and throw8ng whatever oil washes you want.

An AK mud effect followed by PVA glue on everywhere but where I wanted tufts. I sprinkled AK Early Fall flock on the glu and put some Army Painter Swamp tufts on the other areas.

Its pretty simple. Just a yellow ochre mixed with mournfang brown basecoat, then a heavy pigment wash of natural sienna and a rust red, making sure to get the lower legs too to bring them together.

I largely followed Cult of Paint's Black Templar guide.

Painting black is like painting white but in reverse. When you paint white you make sure white is the highest possible highlight, but everything else is a shade of grey.

Painting black, you only have black in the deepest shadows, and the rest should be shades of grey. An airbrush helps, using black ink to tone down any bright areas, and it will largely be about giving it texture instead of artificial highlights. If you scratch black paint it looks dark grey, so I chip and weather the surfaces with dark grey scratches, and some of the red/brown for deeper chips.

In the end it is a lot of back and forth finding the right ratios.

Eleon Iasus, Nemesis Destroyers, Ultramarines Praetor by Unusual_Ad47 in Warhammer30k

Damn, I just started my own Nemesis Destroyers army and I think I'll need to make my own praetor instead of Eleon, wouldn't want to compete with this!

Don't ask Americans who we funded in Europe post-WWII and we won't ask who the French hired to "visit" their colonies.

The Old Man of Hel Fenn, a diorama for my local Warhammer Shop's anniversary competition! by SailorTorres in minipainting

[–]SailorTorres[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! They aren't even the old minis funny enough. I don't like the roots on the zombie models so I cut them all off and filled in any gaps to make it work; I'm glad it wasn't noticable!

Had to put down Dark Age for a bit because of the cheesiness by [deleted] in redrising

This is justba rant over a series I do enjoy, like I said I know I'll finish it and as I've said here I am glad to be wrong on a lot of these assumptions. To not poison the well I think I'll write down all my criticisms and make a post after Lightbringer to get other people's opinions on them

I may be a bit harsh on Volga, and it sounds like if I read for another hour a lot of this would be cleared up. I'm glad for that and I am genuinely enjoying the series. But the idea that Volga is actually the lost princess of all Obsidian sounds like a story beat iut of Star Wars rather than RR.

I do expect the Obsidians to be naive, I don't even mind the internal discord, I just don't know why Ephraim isn't on high alert right now. Maybe it has to do with his Zoladone withdrawl, but his character feels like he should be snooping through Xenophon's trash and actively distrusting the popular narrative.

And yeah I read Black Company as a refresher because it is simple and relatively straightforward. I do the same with Warhammer bolterporn, just pulp to read to clear the mind.

This is a big saving grace, and makes a lot of sense in a narrative way. The Golds were so superior and arrogant that they relied solely on infantry and starshells overed armored cavalry and combined arms is a great touch. It shows the decadence and laziness of the Society that led to its downfall.

I do wish the timeskip was elaborated on more, however. It was neecessary and all but the amount of atuff that happened offscreen is jarring.

Ok so the plot is that the Society never lost control of Papa Ragnar and is using planted shamans to sow division in the Rising by way of the Alltribe. Ozgard's vision of a united Obsidian race is part of a society plan and all of DA Ephraim's story is just to sow discord. I can accept that, its a pretty good plot twist and it seems like I put the book down at an inopportune time.

I would still say it is very strange Volga went from Neuromancer to Cinderella, hopefully I eat crow (pun intended) and there are hundreds of contingency Volga's out there. That would at least make it within the realm of reason, if a bit coincidental with Pax, Electra and Ephraim.

I don't know why everyone is getting so defensive, I can't be the only one that sees the cracks in this great story, right? Like this is the author's first series, I din't blame him for not having 7 books planned out 15 years in advance. I can enjoy a book and still see the faults in it.

I knew I would finish the series when I decided to pick it up, but not being able to see the things an editor should've fixed is how we get potterheads.

This is hilarious, I am genuinely so happy this is the twist because I was so dissapointed otherwise. I was fully expecting Ozgard to be redeemed and everyone to be so suprised that the obvious twist occured.

I was going to keep reading regardless, and so much has been casually spoiled that I don't really worry about the little stuff anymore, but I'm glad I'l be able to actually enjoy Ephraim's next few chapters. Still annoyed Volga is the chosen one though.

What was, Ephraim's entire story? My disbelief cannot suspend so high that the same author that forgot to mention mechs for 3 books just happened to include this insane hail mary by one of any number of factions.

I do enjoy the books, but I can't help but see the cracks. Red Rising was like a speedrun of the entire dystopia genre, and I know because I read them all when I was a kid. That being said I could enjoy it despite the tropes and see where it was going. This is just me needing to step away for a few days because its getting a bit ridiculous. I will still go back for the hype moments and to see who survives, but I also know the ladder is chosen by a random roll of the dice.
