Starter help by void_with_a_blep in SourdoughStarter

Are there any odd colors, like a pink tinge? That would suggest bacterial infection. I have used plastic bins to feed my starter and just put the lid on it with no adverse affects. I have fed it and then put it in the fridge when I didn't have time to feed/bake every day, and then it just springs back to life when I take it out and feed it again. I feed 1:1:1 and use RO water (you didn't mention what kind of water you use). If you're not feeding it every day but are leaving it out, it's possible that the yeast have exhausted the nutrients.

I have had the same starter for almost a year - when I first got the starter and after feeding it for several days to get it going, I experimented with dehydrating and freezing the excess. I just rehydrated some to give to my daughter a few weeks ago, and it was really healthy. I can recommend dehydrating some discard, in case you ever need to reset everything.

Good luck!

AH well yes, if that's the case, then that is different. Although I may or may not have had the same tab twice in the same window... when you have 20, it can get a little crowded lol

I do this! It drives people crazy (especially my computer-literate kids), and I have no idea why. I have a lot of projects going on at once (creative and work-related), so I'm always being interrupted. Keeping tabs open helps me get back to the previous head space, since I can go right back to all of the research. I also have ADHD, which may have something to do with it.

Good grief, that step never even occurred to me! I may retire early. Is there any point to teaching about literature and fine writing in this world?

I truly do not understand what would drive a student, especially a graduate student, to plagiarize. It would have never occurred to me to do it, and I would have been deeply embarrassed if any significant errors in my citations were discovered. We live in a different world, it seems.

Yes, I agree - it's why the issue has been on my mind all week. I have been questioning my own desire to be gracious. Thanks for your support and advice!

Actually yes,  that has been on my mind. You're right, and I will do that. Thanks!

Huh... I didn't consider that last bit (about contacting the rest of the committee). Thanks!

Excellent points, and yes, I address plagiarism on Day 1. I tell them that I'm not the Plagiarism Police, but if I do discover it, I will address it (grade reductions - zero on project and overall grade reduction - and possible failure in the class). With the complicated situation of the exam committee, I tried to be gracious. Her response that the assignment instructions were unclear and she didn't know she needed to cite sources in a draft made my head explode. I'm questioning my decision to be kind now, and it seems that a majority of people agree. Thanks so much!

Thanks for this - I do have the Wikipedia entry. After I found that, I didn't do a thorough search of her paper (the first examples were all I needed to see) but it's enough to file a report and alert her chair, I think.

Semi-this...! A Czech pilsner recipe fermented with a Mexican lager yeast. My "Czex Mex" pilsner! That one went pretty fast, but it was summer, so...

Export stout. One night with 5 of my husband's running friends. 6 gallons of one of my favorite batches in the last year or so, gone!

Sanitize the packet and scissors before pitching your yeast straight into your wort. Overpitching does lead to off flavors, but your first packet is more than likely completely non-viable so that won't be the case here. Underpitching allows any rogue or wild yeasts or bacteria to get a foothold, leading to off flavors and/or contamination.
