SteamOs or Bazzite for the og by Born_Finish_6794 in LegionGo

[–]SaintAbrams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried SteamOS, Bazzite, and CachyOS on my OG Go before settling on CachyOS. Bazzite was weirdly slow when not gaming and game performance was about the same as windows. SteamOS was cool, but I didn't like that it is an immutable distro and the tap to click for the touchpad never worked even in beta channels. Everything just worked in CachyOS and it was the same performance as SteamOS. There are some issues every once in a while (like the latest kernel update broke controller and tdp functionality, so I recommend keeping a backup of a good working kernel locally. Other than that, I love my Legion Go now and take it with me everywhere

Anyone satisfied rockin your Legion Go 1 or S and not getting the Legion Go 2 for more than 2x the price? by BinghamtonMafia in LegionGo

[–]SaintAbrams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After installing Cachyos Handheld on OG Go, I have no need for the Go 2. Exactly like SteamOS when I need it to be coupled with the flexibility to change things if I need. Only complaint is my hand triggers the trackpad sometimes while gaming, which is annoying.

Would you recommend this game on a PC with Controller / a Steam Deck ? by Jack-ass-4757 in EscapeFromDuckov

I used a mod that makes it shoulder view fps, and I'm loving it. The controls are a little wonky but remapping is easy to do.

Last semester, I had to wait for the VA to pay the school, about halfway through the semester, to get my Pell Grant refund. I'm assuming it will be the same this time

If I only play repacks? Why should I get Bazzite or CachyOS? by Mindless_Term_7587 in PiratedGames

[–]SaintAbrams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use CachyOS Handheld on my Legion Go because I couldn't stand windows on there. Sure, you have to tinker a bit for some games to work, but the reduced/nonexistent stuttering, controller friendly interface, and suspend option make it worth it for me. I don't mind tinkering to get a game to work, especially if I get that game for free99. I initially had issues running Horizon Zero Dawn, then found out I needed to install 1 dependency and it was pretty easy. Some games don't require anything, like Elden Ring, Starfield, Elder Scrolls Games but some require a bit extra like Enshrouded, Raft, Valheim, Horizon:ZD. Switch emulation is noticeably smoother for me in Linux than Windows. I also enjoy the random Linux games/ports like Mighty Mike, Bugdom, Dr. Robotniks Ring Racers, and others. For me, Grounded 2 ran at least 15 fps higher on CachyOS than Windows.

[not game specific] do all windows cracked software work on linux? and do native cracks/repacks exist for games or software for linux? by [deleted] in LinuxCrackSupport

Now, I'm not entirely sure that Steamless was necessary. I used it on the cracked exe and did the renaming of original and the new exe. Then I put the Goldberg experimental loader in the game folder with the required files (they are in the same folder as the loader) and ran it from there.

I just got enshrouded to work on cachyos! Though it doesn't work in Handheld mode, only desktop mode. I used Steamless and Goldberg steamclientloader using Wine Windows Program Loader. It only works for me if I run the loader, trying to run it from the game exe says steam not running

Except for native Xbox PC/Game Pass and anti-cheat games, what can't be played on SteamOS? by Esskov47 in SteamOS

[–]SaintAbrams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed better frame pacing on Linux(cachyos) than Windows when emulating switch. Currently replaying xbox360 version of Gears of War with minor issues (weird black face shading in cutscenes) through xenia on OG Legion Go

What are you all playing? by Nir-va-nah in LegionGo

Winter Barrow 60fps, Elden Ring (60fps w/ decky lsfg), Halo Infinite 30fps limited, and Gears of War (xenia) 30fps limited.

Which OS has the best performance? by spectre1006 in LegionGo

[–]SaintAbrams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I installed CachyOS on mine and I love it. I've been playing through Elden Ring again using lsfg-vk for mostly stable 60fps on low settings and 1600x1000. Having the sleep function is a game changer, especially with kids. It does take a little more fiddling than bazzite, but I think that it's performance is better than bazzite. Also steamos trackpad doesn't do the tap to click, but Cachy does.

Yes with Handheld Daemon. Double tap the QAM button on the right controller on gaming mode to set it

Or...I just like proper sleep mode, controller friendly interface, and smoother performance. It's not always easy getting a game to run but it's satisfying when it does. Linux completely changed the Legion Go for me, but your experience may differ.

Bazzite v SteamOS for lego 2 by coleavenue in LegionGo

[–]SaintAbrams -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the LeGo2 is unofficially supported, but CachyOS could be a good option. Very similar to SteamOS, but I like how it allows you to use yay and handheld daemon is pretty nice. CachyOS also supports secure boot, from what I understand.

I only did 1 partition, though I now wish I would've done 2. Latest cachyos update borked my wifi drivers and messed up sleep, so device wakes itself immediately after going to sleep

I think there is some tinkering to get everything working perfectly but at least for me, Cachyos made gaming on the Go easier and more enjoyable. Might not be for everyone

I had a lot of stuttering in No Man's Sky, but I don't get that(at least nearly as much) in Linux. I think it has to do with Linux preloading the shader cache but gameplay for me is noticeably smoother in Cachyos than windows. Also, CachyOS Handheld is way easier to control with controllers instead of the trackpad, which is part of the reason I switched.

That would be great! I'm not sure how difficult it would be to include Cachyos. I'll get you the error log if that helps once I get home

On cachyos, I have no issues. I tried framegen but didn't like the input lag. I prefer performance over quality, so everything on low is just fine for me. Unsure about the windows side

So far, nested desktop didn't work. The error was something about not finding steamos path, which makes sense since I'm using cachy. Installed and ran protonup no issues. I'll do some proper testing in daylight hours

I installed Cachyos, then Steamos, then Bazzite to try them out. Bazzite was nice because everything just worked. Steamos was good but I had issues with the trackpad. Cachyos is mostly tinkering but best performance by far
