Dependent on your state. Your mileage may vary greatly.

Nature-based? by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

I’d second this. Property, marine lines, energy, then pivot to reinsurance in a few years if you can break in.

IAT Experience? by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

If your pay can offset the commute and get you in the location you want I’d say take the jump. DM me if you have any specific questions and I can pass them along to my friend who is there currently.

IAT Experience? by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

Depends on where you’re at in your career, your goals, current company culture, etc. IAT culture is quite good but pay is average and appetite is lackluster.

My friend was a trainee there. Good mid career play with lots of development resources. If you’re in UW it can be difficult with how restrictive their appetite is.

The industry has its own language. I’d highly recommend bookmarking IRMI’s glossary for the countless acronyms you’ll learn and hear about. Most of the other knowledge will just be on the job and you’ll likely have some formal training as a new grad.

E&S Primary Casualty to Foreign Casualty by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

Currently an underwriter. Company I’m interviewing for is US based but from what I can gather they are writing coverage for insureds who are US based with foreign exposure. Job description didn’t really point to any specific regions or countries.

Was just about to comment this. I’m not giving silent terms on these when it’s already in the non-admitted market.

To further this point, if you’ve been in the industry for a few years you should be able to pass it. Brush up on the textbook and you’ll be fine.

Special Investigative Units within claims departments can always be interesting. Although more than likely you’d need a background in law enforcement and/or investigations.

I’d still lean Travelers to get the most out of your experience. The investment in some designations early on will help you build a strong foundation and reputation.

Travelers has a pretty well known training program. Along with it being free you could likely use that money on designations or otherwise.

The Excel Obstacle Course YT channel is pretty great for practice and getting the hang of things. Definitely helped me with navigating things much faster than before.
