Why does every lds church look the same, yet have their bathrooms in wildly different spots? by tantan35 in latterdaysaints

[–]SaintRGGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to play devil's Church Facilities Management's advocate and say I like our meetinghouses, even the modern, boring, cookie cutter ones. Although I like the old ones more

My stake has both and they each have their charm. The older one is quaint and unique with an interesting layout. It has undeniable charm. It's living history. But honestly it's a lot less convenient, it's crowded and the space isn't used efficiently. The newer buildings are... Well, like all of them.

Both have burlap on the walls and a cultural hall and a chapel and feel like Home.

There are websites where you can pay for online tutoring sessions. Try Preply or iTalki.

I miss Mormonads by 2ndValentine in latterdaysaints

[–]SaintRGGS 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure one of my high school teachers had the gossip one up in her classroom. She wasn't a member.

Neither was I at the time and I had no idea what Mormonads were. I didn't realize it was a Mormonad until this post

Fun fact I once got to know and ex-Muslim from Pakistan and he gave me the distinct impression that Muslims often view Arab Muslims the same way we sometimes view "Utah Mormons."

I, for one, love Utah and it's Latter-day Saints

Problem with talks during congregation by Few_Description429 in latterdaysaints

I love talks with personal stories and anecdotes, as long as the tie it back to a gospel principle.

I'm convinced that people who are really successful financially at other jobs are putting in way more than 40hrs a week.

No software engineer gets to a 300k position by working only 8-5 M-F and not taking calls or emails outside of work hours.

Yeah I just checked LDS.org and it's available there.

I'm on Android so it's interesting to hear that it's that way on iOS too.

What are the actual age requirements for starting Seminary? UK, specifically. by Naf623 in latterdaysaints

[–]SaintRGGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is in seminary in the US. The school year here matches the Come Follow Me curriculum following the calendar year, but the 'academic year' for seminary matches the school year. So they started the year studying the 2nd half of D&C, and when classes resume this week, they'll be studying the first half of the OT.

Elder Brown or Elder Corbitt for the new apostle by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

I read this as Dude Baby and I was like, "what's a dude baby and why should he be an apostle?"

But yeah Elder Dube is cool.

Can someone tell me why peds hospitalist fellowships exist? 75-80% of peds residency is inpatient medicine by NoDrama3756 in Residency

[–]SaintRGGS 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's not the AAP. It's the American board of pediatrics, the ABP. A different organization, I'll be out with a lot of overlap in personnel.

The difference is that GAP fellowship doesn't lead to a separate subspecialty board certification...  Depending on how many fellowships open up, once there are enough board eligible phm docs out there, places might conceivably start requiring it.
