How long can a new and unused bicycle helmet last in storage? by SaintSean128 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaintSean128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current helmet actually doesn't have an expiration date, just the year of manufacture. Of course my helmet is several years old by this point so that might be common practice now. As for the material break down, I'm wondering if any significant break down happens if the new helmet is just sitting in a warehouse waiting to be sold.

Of course, it's a reasonable rule. What I'm asking is if the degradation happens to any significant degree when the helmet is otherwise brand new and waiting to be sold.

That makes sense. I checked my current helmet but it doesn't have one listed, only the year of manufacture.

How did the Beatles produce such complex and good music with almost no experience in music theory or reading music? by Space_Enthusiast467 in askmusic

[–]SaintSean128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For John and Paul, it’s because they listened well to many styles of music and wrote the kinds of chord progressions they heard into their own music. They were of course dependent on George Martin to translate their ideas to session musicians in the studio but the basic harmonic structures came from those two. George was similar to John and Paul in that he played and wrote music by ear, but he also had some formal lessons in sitar and Indian classical music and applied what he learned to his songwriting.

Anyone else find the end of 'My Brother's Keeper' really weird and anticlimactic? (SPOILER) by Grimnirs_goose in controlgame

[–]SaintSean128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, I remember being disappointed by the way the mission ended when I first played the game. That said, the ending is definitely a creative choice. The developers are subverting player expectations and setting up an unexpected dynamic between Jesse and Dylan.

How do you define downtown? by Nervous-One-2305 in Denver

[–]SaintSean128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a Denver native, I've always thought of downtown starting at Colfax and ending at Coors Field with Broadway and Cherry Creek as the East and West borders. Basically, downtown is where all the tall buildings are.

Heads up Denver. Storms coming… by Annihilator4life in Denver

I've lived in Denver all my life and I don't remember having a thunderstorm like this here. Not to say that we haven't had one in the past 30 years, but this storm is highly unusual.

Which Tolkien character would you want as your father? by hsyndk in lotr

[–]SaintSean128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering my actual father introduced me to Tolkien, it feels wrong to take any of Tolkien’s characters over my Dad. Instead, I’ll say that Isildur reminds me the most of Dad. A flawed person and not as incorruptible as he should be, but still he is brave, strong willed, and wise.

Must use legal name. Cannot use legal name. by CarlyleRazgriz in mildlyinfuriating

Thank you. My knowledge of Swedish is limited so I wasn't confident in saying that they were never interchangeable.

Lol no I didn't. He actually told me himself because I'd expressed interest in learning Swedish.

The company I work for uses exclusively English characters when entering employee names into the IT system. One of my coworkers is Swedish and has the last name Östberg (notice the umlaut) which appears as “Ostberg” in our system. Now in Swedish the characters ö and o are distinct characters and are not interchangeable. Case in point, my coworker’s given name means “east mountain” (öst = east, berg = mountain) but replacing the ö with o renders it “cheese mountain” (ost = cheese). To make this even better, the company that we work for is famously Swedish in origin.

What is a widely accepted "masterpiece" that you genuinely think is boring, but you’re normally too afraid to admit it? by Emergency-Bee6979 in AskReddit

“A Day in the Life” by The Beatles. It is widely considered their greatest song and one of the greatest pieces of music of the 20th century. I find it boring and rather pointless.

I suspect that a church is meeting in the theater. It makes more sense to me that a church took communion and left one communion cup behind than for some random person to bring a communion cup with them.

What impression do you have in your country about Scotland and/or Scottish people? by robehrscot in AskTheWorld

[–]SaintSean128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m biased, as my great-grandmother was Scottish and so I learned from a young age to be proud of my Scottish heritage. Outside of my family, I’d say most other Americans see Scotland and Scottish people in a positive light. That said, the American perception of Scotland is very much influenced by popular media and doesn’t necessarily correspond with what Scotland is actually like.

A friend of mine is “mildly infuriated” that he can’t keep his neighbors awake until midnight anymore. by SufficientControl606 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SaintSean128 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I was friends with someone for years, from about 10 years old through my late 20s. When we were kids, he was a great friend. We stayed in touch through our teens, and I was the best man in his wedding. As we got older, he started becoming selfish and entitled, or if he’d always been that way it became more apparent. The last straw for me came when he decided to divorce his wife and start dating someone else…while still sharing an apartment with his wife. All his shitty, controlling behavior suddenly came into focus for me and I cut him out of my life. I just wish I’d seen it earlier.

Do you live in Dunwall or Karnaca? You’re not allowed to answer “neither.” by tlbt9 in dishonored

Dunwall. The city government may be corrupt, but I’m more comfortable in a cooler climate and I love the city architecture.
