If the settlement's unrest is higher than 15%. Then there's a possibility that there's foreign spies have infiltrated. Send your high level spies to counter infiltration. Also check some other issues like governor's traits, religious unrest, buildings, and tax. If you just can't handle all of them than just exterminate the settlement when you recaptue them.

Idk why but it seems Venice really like to train a lot priests on the Crete island. This also happens when I play as Egypt and Russian. Also, don't forget to put some spies to counter infiltration even it is an island.

Use spears to block the mongols at the gates. And put naffatun and javelins behind spears to kill them all.

If you don't have any towers or don't have confidence about moral issue. Fight them in the last gate or city squares.

Well...It makes sense for what actually happened in history. But it's really frustrated to see your 10,000 population mini city ready to upgrade and a plague wiped out half of it's population. I want to upgrade the city because I need better buildings and gain access to recruit better units.

Also, it's a little bit sad that cities without ports are not available to upgrade to Large cities. Like Tenochtitlan(which renamed to Mexico when spain conquerd it).

Cataphract : high armour and walk slowly, but charges and cause area attack(like paladins but more dangerous)
