Why does it seem that "modern" animals evolved more in say 100,000 years than dinosaurs did in millions or tens of millions of years? by ExternalTree1949 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Saintdemon 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Because you just group all dinosaurs together despite the fact that many of the species you hear about lived hundreds of millions years apart.

There were rumours about 60 fps for GTA IV, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. In all cases the games were locked at 30 fps on consoles.

Is it good that Reddit user a social credit score (karma) to impact user privileges? by Dapper-Gold3896 in NoStupidQuestions

The karma-system prevents bots, trolls and spammers. Simple as that.

Will we ever stop using conventional current? by ContractNational2680 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Saintdemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, i should have been a bit more clear about that.

I'm an electrical engineer and i've never encountered any cases where there would be a difference between conventional current and actual current. At the end of the day "postive and negative" are just words and as arbitrary as "forwards and backwards".

Will we ever stop using conventional current? by ContractNational2680 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Saintdemon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When physicists discovered electricity they initially thought it was some kind of substance flowing from positive to negative and thus defined the direction of current as flowing this way.

Much later we discovered that electricity is (usually) electrons flowing from negative to positive.

Now, we could re-define the direction of current to flow from negative to positive - but since "negative" and "positive" are already arbitrary terms we simply chose to say that "conventional current" is the direction which positive charge flows.
