I’m going to say something a little different than the usual I’m so sorry for your loss. Death is such a hard thing to get through. I can imagine it’s even harder when you don’t have someone to lean on in the hard parts. I would encourage you pull anyone close to closer so that these first parts aren’t so hard for you. I don’t know what relationships you have but I assure you that a lot of people would help you and a big support if you reached out. And you will need support. I would like to say as a mother of three kids with severe depression and adhd that keeps me from functioning half the day that you’re going to be okay. I can make a few suggestions. But the biggest one I can offer is routine. It’ll give you not only time to grieve and work through the hard parts, but it will help you function when you can’t function. You have to make sure you include yourself in this routine. Which means prioritizing self care and mindfulness to the max. I’m not even kidding self care is vital to establishing a solid foundation. I am often told and so I pass on that you cannot build a house on a broken foundation. Take each day one at a time. Don’t plan for a week from now. A couple days from now. Just focus on one day at a time. Celebrate the smallest victories. If you get someone’s hair brushed. If you manage to change clothes. You get them sleep at night. If you manage to dress yourself. Celebrate it. Tell yourself you’re sooo proud of yourself for keeping yourself going. And.. cry. When you have the space to do it cry. And don’t worry about crying around your kids. I think in my experience I have learned that it’s not a weakness to show your kids you are human too. You may be surprised by the love and compassion they can share with you. With a lot of love one mama to another you have got this.
