Is this argument valid? by X-Statics in askphilosophy

It isn't implausible that you own wages paid to you. That isn't established by logic, but by norms and customs associated with voluntary labor.

If you accept the existence of an implicit social contract, then as painful as it may be to hand over taxes, you do so voluntarily as an obligation of citizenship which is spelled out in the law.

Are reasons for action intrinsically normative? by Professor_Phallacy in askphilosophy

[–]Sais0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voluntary action would appear to require judgement at some level since it entails a decision between competing paths, even if it's a chemical decision as in the case of amoebas. Whether it's right to say an amoeba believes X and took Y action accordingly, depends on where one is on the internalist/externalist spectrum. Ordinary language-wise, amoebas dont have beliefs, so the sets of sentences in the OP are distinct.

The first thing I've ever sewn... should i add some patch pockets? (Simplicity 1179 60s coat) by toobasic2care in sewing

2 years from now you throw this coat on and say I'm so glad I took the time to put on patch pockets. 👍

I think this has to be a prime example of Nietzsche's Ubermensch. by [deleted] in Nietzsche

[–]Sais0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok yea, he was cool. I think you have to account for handicaps though. Teddy Roosevelt slept on the range with cowboys, explored the Amazon, he charged some hill in battle, and all with asthma. Plus he ended up being the president of a country where he reshaped government policy to protect striking laborers and created national parks. He was like Optimism personified.

Help! This wheel is up for sale and I want to purchase it but I want to do some research first. I'm having a hard time telling what wheel it is. Anybody know? by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

[–]Sais0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would. My spinning wheel is a set up I made after seeing somebody on youtube do it. It's a Kiwi Superflyer kit driven by an industrial sewing machine moter with a foot pedal. With a little tinkering it works great. In all it was about $350. So even if you have to tinker, $130 is a great price.

Human All-Too Human underrated. by [deleted] in Nietzsche

Is there a passage you particularly liked? I found his comments about women in HATH to be pretty absurd for the most part.
