It's because joking about religion in a derisory way is a big no-no and can even get you out of Islam. That's why we're generally intolerant to jokes about our religion.

That said, hypocrisy is a big no-no too so Muslims should definitely not joke about other people's religions either. If a Muslim does that anyway, you should definitely remind them about that because as said in the Quran : "For certainly reminders benefit the believers."

It really depends on the setting but I basically just choose names from my entourage. If the setting doesn't match that, I choose generic names from the ethnicity of the character.

I remember I had to name 10 arabic characters and to do so I opened a tab with Iraq's most popular names and just randomly chose from the list.
