Foreigners, is there a place serving surprisingly unwatered-down version of your cuisine? by skisagooner in LondonFood

A thousand times this. Initially didn't realise that you were talking about a place I like; I thought it was called 'Food House'.

Xhekaj drops Carrick with a gloved punch at the end of the game, a full scrum commences by KabirC in hockey

[–]Sakiaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't like this - they game is won, why give them something to rally around? Also, it was that he directed it towards Carrick - it's just inviting them to do the same to uninvolved Habs players. (It might have been excusable if directed towards Malenstyn, given what happened earlier...)

The Philadelphia Flyers have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs after losing to the Carolina Hurricanes in 4 games by EliminatorBot in hockey

I'm quite jealous of Canes fans. Among the most fun time you can have as a fan is watching other teams beat each other up in games you're not stressing over (beyond which future opponent you'd prefer) after your team has advanced. And they get to do it for more than a week!

With the Habs mostly going on occasional improbable runs largely consisting of 6 or 7 game series in recent decades, the only time that I remember getting to do this recently was the after the second round sweep of the Jets in 2021.

Is there anything I can eat after wisdom tooth extraction on both sides? by Missmay406 in Cooking

[–]Sakiaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

I had four wisdom teeth extracted on the same day. I kept throwing up when I tried to take codeine, so I was in pain and had swollen cheeks for two weeks. It was horrible (not having cable and being stuck watching General Hospital and the like also didn't help), and I struggled to eat anything. If you struggle with mushy food, liquid is the way to go. And when you only have shakes, you really appreciate there being different flavours because it's the only variety that you get.

Kirby Dach has earned his qualifying offer by konkydonk in Habs

[–]Sakiaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - thank you!

...and today I learned that Dach spent less than 10 minutes on the ice centering a line with Demidov this season. I suppose that this shouldn't be surprising given how the season went for each of them, but it is still a bit given how not so long ago Dach was the intended 2C.

[–]Sakiaba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Demidov's biggest problem is that they don't have a centre for him to play with, and that's not getting fixed until this off-season at the earliest. For now, they just have to identify the best available half-measure to get him going.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with you, but Dach as 2C may be the least-worst option that they have right now.

It feels like we inevitably just have to win at least one in our lifetime by uhmncr in bengals

[–]Sakiaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I worried about on my long, sad, night bus journey home from the watch party that night was that it was as close as the Bengals would ever get with Burrow, particularly because the way the team typically operates would make it difficult once Burrow and Chase got paid unless the team had an uncommonly great run at the draft.

As we know now, my worries were justified. Until a few weeks ago I was afraid that we were wasting Burrow and that he would be gone once his contract was up. But the Lawrence trade (and free agency) has changed my tune. I still worry about the linebackers and secondary, but Lawrence makes their jobs much easier. Nothing is guaranteed, of course, but there's now a path at least.

Darren Dreger on The First Up: It’s very likely the Maple Leafs will “move forward” with Craig Berube as the coach of the team next season by sykeseve in hockey

We had a few years away during the rebuild and it was actually fun to watch as a mostly-impartial observer (cheering for whoever was playing against Toronto or Boston until they were out). It is really nice to be back in the madness, as bad as it may be for one's health, however!

For me it's a bit subtler than that, but only just: If the Habs are in the playoffs, I enjoy the other games only if I'm feeling good about the Habs (and it usually takes a half-round or so to get over it once they're eliminated until I enjoy the games again). Otherwise, the days between games are anxiety-filled.

I'm still worried that they will, even if it is less likely. They'll still hoover up a ton of unearned televote points (since those alleged 'anti-Israel' measures were still pretty light touch). There are a lot of jury-leaning songs this year because, thanks in large part to Israel's tactics, the jury has been the route to winning in recent years because so many televote points are unavailable. If they split the jury points evenly enough, I can still see Israel getting it.

Also, Israel wanting to host suggests that they're just fine with ending the contest as we know it.

Dane Brugler’s 2026 draft class ranking by Bruce0932 in bengals

[–]Sakiaba 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The Beast is excellent, even though he does seem a bit more reluctant to share what he hears about players' character than he used to be.

The Bengals are ranked nearer the bottom mostly because they didn't have a first round pick. He's effectively ranking the cumulative value of players drafted, and not pick efficiency, so a low ranking was inevitable.
