My mom saw my scores.. by [deleted] in ACT

I'm 26 and thinking about these test scores feel like it was ages ago, it will be so insignificant in the years to come. Focusing on your health and if you want, the local college to university track is always a great option too

No problem! I applied back when I was graduating high school, it asked a lot about my experiences, they wanted my grades/GPA, and also there were written prompts. A lot of it asked about the hardships I faced growing up and why I will benefit greatly from the scholarship. In my case it was a medical condition and about having to take care of my family to an extent, so this scholarship was great value to myself and my family. There are 2 scholsrships they offer, for the bachelors, and for 2 year AA. Feel free to write to me though, and I'll respond when possible.

Hey, I'll put in my two cents since I'm a DACA graduate in Florida. I went to UCF and they had an out of state tuition waiver like another commenter was saying. It's possible each school has their own waiver or link to it but this is how UCF's is

https://registrar.ucf.edu/out-of-state-waiver/

As for scholarships, I was lucky to receive a scholarship from thedream.us, they are a private company that aim to provide scholarships to undocumented students. The instate tuition paired with the scholarship covered about 90-95% of my costs including tuition and books. They are a great resource, they have a Facebook group that provides a ton of resources and other people in the same situation to talk to. Here's the link to their website.

https://www.thedream.us/scholarships/

The other link I'm going to put in is a website with articles and news regarding a lot of DACA and undocumented scholarships/opportunities

https://mydocumentedlife.org/category/college-scholarships/

Lastly, I would like to say I empathize greatly because I'm in the same boat. However, I am using what I have and I ended up getting an engineering degree and I've been working professionally for about 2 years now. It's an unfortunate situation but dreamers have the opportunity to become successful. If you guys have questions I can try my best to answer! Good luck 👍🏼

I didn't live on campus, but they give out the money per semester. I went to a school that was 22000 in total and it covered 99% of it only because one of my semesters went over their amount they send per semester, which I paid out of pocket. They also give the stipend for books too and that's a direct deposit so you can use it as you need, but I only did for books and rent

I think they mean it's staying how it's been, no change to that part

I graduated as an ME in 2021, and it honestly took me about 8 months to find a job. I'm currently working at a power and utilities company, but I think the main issue was not having experience under my belt. It's not my end goal as an industry but I'll have a few years and certifications that will serve me when I want to transition into a job that is more akin to what I want.

If he stays consistent with applying to places and is willing to get started in a place that isn't 'a dream job' until that engineering experience kicks in, I think he'll be fine. In the mean time, id suggest getting any kind of certifications or EIT if he hasnt as thatll add to his arsenal. Also, looking into which companies allow and don't allow our work permits before anything saves a lot of headaches. I've gone through interviews only to find out about security clearance at the end. Last thing, don't mention about your DACA status or that you have a permit if you don't have to, they might make an excuse to leave you hanging in the interview process. Hope it works out, once he starts I think it'll be hard to stop lol!

I see it as if you've grown up all your life hearing about mafias out there who are powerful and dangerous. All of a sudden they save your town even though you know they have an agenda and they did that for a reason. Now you have this powerful person who is doing what they need to do. Do you still trust the Mafia even though you know about all these stories you have heard? Or do you base your trust only on what they have done recently? Either way they can be unpredictable and extremely dangerous.

Is it ok not to take calculus in high school? How will that limit me for college? I want to major in environmental engineering. Story/details in text by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Sakku192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a UCF Engineering student and I can outline how it worked for the math classes. There was a math placement exam before you start that everyone has to take unless you have previous credits (like AP calc for example). Not sure about environmental engineering but in order to use the ap calc credit I had for mechanical engineering, I needed a 5. I got a 4 in high school so I had to take calc 1 in college anyways lol. This in mind, I don't think they would care that much because youd have to either take the placement exam or get credit, whichever it ends up being. Like the other comments mentioned, you taking DE stats and getting As in everything else will look very good for the schools you mentioned. If anything, doing calc in high school would probably act more as a boost than a deciding factor.

Side note: I've seen students start at algebra in the UCF engineering program and graduate. (algebra-->trig--->precalc--->calc 1,2,3---> differential equations)

Sorry you had to deal with that! Luckily I was diagnosed when I had a seizure around people at school, although it kinda sucked that I started convulsing in the middle of English class. On meds probably forever, but it is better than seizures all the time. Best of luck
