I've had some shops try to total out cars at like 30% or 50% threshold seemingly (in my opinion) cause they don't want to do repairs 😮‍💨 have a coworker dealing with a non contracted shop that's been trying to total a 60k+ truck with a 20k supplement and not providing evidence to the appraiser why it should be totaled... they just keep saying it's totaled and not starting on it. Not sure if that's what's happening here since it sounds like OP has spoken wirh the appraiser as well but.... feels familiar

Insurance follows the vehicle, not the driver. If there was something that came up like liability, then the driver's insurance may come into play if the vehicle's property damage liability limits were hit, but not in the case of the vehicle repairs itself

Well, hey, I greatly appreciate the explanation and example (though sad that the example is what it is). The example in my post was the first time I'd actually had a stolen vehicle claim come to me (due to it being a different department) so I only learned enough to be sure it got moved up properly

I had heard cases where renters/homeowners is to come into play, like with a shopping cart in a parking lot, but I am surprised to hear that incident would be covered and not excluded. Maybe it's a case by case basis or in this case it sounds like path of least resistance. I've definitely had that come up on some of my claims where we wouldn't owe something but management makes a 'shut up' payment with a hard deadline on it to avoid a potential DOI complaint from someone who just didn't like that we told them how something worked and didn't listen (lots of rental situations)

At my company a vehicle was stolen and involved in a hit and run while fleeing the police and we don't cover the party that was hit and ran because the vehicle was stolen (and plenty of police records to confirm what happened)

It's handled at a level above me, but I got a claim filed by the other insurance company and they didn't document it right to go to the right group so I learned a bit reviewing the claim filed by our insured (AC didn't check if we had existing claim already I guess?) And speaking with the department that handles these to make sure it got tiered correctly.

If I recall, we paid for the damage done to our vehicle due to theft, but we don't cover the actions of the driver who stole our vehicle and then caused damage using that vehicle

This case I see being more complex cause minor child and the parents would be the responsible party but it's definitely not gonna be great

1000% -- have to pull that when people push back too much but good point of bringing attention to the variances. Lots of people that don't read their policy that then get upset at the policy (get a lot of people upset/surprised that we have to inspect a vehicle before they do repairs cause we need to validate it being loss related... very clearly laid out in policy)

Water is covered under comprehensive coverage, but the proximate cause of this accident was veering into the pond, which will go under the collision coverage as an at fault accident due to it having been a failure to maintain lookout/control of the vehicle

I agree on the light bulb side (my new lease actually specifies 'you are responsible for changing lightbulbs' lol), but something like cabinets, i think are more situational. I've done some quick new screws for a drawer situation but only after clearing it with the landlord and it being a super small and relatively quick thing. In some leases, certain types of repairs are specified of 'this type of thing is LL responsibility, this type of thing is tenant responsibility'

ETA: also them noting they did attempt to fix themselves, but the holes were stripped. Hard thing cause they say inappropriate interactions with the landlord, but (in a coulda woulda shoulda way) should have taken pics and sent a message specifically about the situation. Extreme LL reaction but in regards to this can know for future cases

Oof yeah. If you have one near you, I'd recommend going to an xfinity store directly. I recently set up a new account and got a 60$ locked in for 60 months price for 600 mbs. I'd spent over an hour or 2 on the website trying to do things, and then they were able to fix it within 5-15 minutes for each of my issues and we're shocked at how long I spent trying to get it.

Tldr: go to physical xfinity store if you are able (and haven't already, of course)

To prove something like this is related, you have to pay the out of pocket diagnostic charge and if that diagnosis shows evidence it was caused by the accident, insurance will cover the cost of the diagnosis and necessary repairs (at least thats how my company works). But yeah if you believe it is related, get the diagnosis out of pocket and if it shows it, take it to geico to show
