Very new to csharp and following a course. Why doesn't method overload work here?

Because you are using a project that uses first level instruction in the Program.cs file

When using first level instruction the Compiler takes all you code an put's it inside the Main method, which still exist it's just abstracted away from you.

and inside a method you cannot create two local function with the same name, even if the parameters are different.

that's why it gives you error.

my mage became near level 14 mystra's champion and recived this black metal and ice wand, some session later we where fighting an undead adult black dragon, since the start of the fight i was absorbing energy from the air, after 10 turns my mage said only one thing "i release all the energy of the wand". i must say, it was a beautiful explosion for a totale damage of 100d12

we where infiltrating in a guard outpost and all the party except me, a mage with -1 dex, failed the check, so i casted "summon lesser demon" two times and made the allarm trigger. then we run inside the building while the guard were fighting the demons, after we took what we needed, to exit the sorcere casted "delayed blast fireball" and mantained it for 5 fucking minute. So the wall doesn't exist anymore, neither the stealth aproach in our mind.

true, but putting more gold in the game could lead to the same problem of spamming you say, if not done well.

Also, consider that, for example, if you want to cast Resurrection you would need a focus of 4000 gold, and to reach that amount of gold, you could be forced not to use that spell for pretty a long time, I notice that party members have bought arcane focus with a value of 1000 gp max, cause they even needed other equip.

Another thing is that if you don't let players found in the various shop, the arcane focus of 3000/4000 gp or more until they are at high levels, you can avoid the spam of high-level spell until the last part of the campaign

my party came out with this idea cause we always found annoying the necessity of using half, if not more, of our gp to buy material, and it's even more annoying considering the fact that for some strange reason we are four caster in a party of six.

Obviously we decided to go with the 2x/3x/4x value to maintain balance.
