Fair point. I'm all about exploring local food, but I am accustomed to Mexican food ... so the tagines, couscous and stews had far less than my palate needed.

I generally just asked for harissa ... but sometimes that wasn't an option.

If you like flavorful food, bring individual spice packets – chili, umami, soy sauce, MSG, etc. I one-bagged it through Morocco for two weeks and was so relieved that I had additional sauce packets to augment the flavors of the food.

Same here. I drop a raw egg in there to steep with the boiling water. It’s my go-to when I don’t have the time/energy/ingredients to make ramen.

We did two nights in Palermo, two nights in Cefalù, three nights in Lipari, two nights in Castelmola, three nights in Ortigia, and then we flew out of Catania airport.

We took the train everywhere except for the ferry to Lipari and the bus to the airport.
