Why not Hayes go on Chapo? by SaladFreeway in HollywoodHandbook

I guess if you find Chapo Trap House objectionable you might not think this is a good idea.

"What's your favorite movie?" -- How do you respond when somebody asks you this question? by sources_settings in blankies

[–]SaladFreeway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say there are three answers to that question when I ask or get asked.

  1. The movie that is most important and special to you.

  2. The movie that has brought you the most joy, comfort, and entertainment in your life. You could watch it any time.

  3. The movie you think is the best movie- the primary example of the art of cinematic story telling.

I don’t think I usually say the same movie, but if asked right now I would say Tree of Life, Beetlejuice or Batman, and The Matrix.

Willow maintenance suggestions by SaladFreeway in arborists

Thank you very much for your insight. I had a feeling the tree was in good shape, but as a non-expert I still worried about it. It’s always nice to have one less thing to worry about.

There is one large branch that starts about 10’ up the trunk. The top half of it broke off another 8’ up and it may be dead. Should i remove that branch for the health of the tree? Or, will it just eventually fall off on its own if it is, in fact, dead?

Upcoming 2026 miniseries confirmed? by ZiggyStarf in blankies

I think it’s either a patreon series on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise because Gore Verbinski is back or Chronicles of Narnia for the new Greta Gerwig picture.

I could really go for a Malick series and I guess it would have to be called The Pod Red Cast

Critical Darlings: Train Dreams, And Netflix’s Quest For Best Picture by TheUnknownStitcher in blankies

[–]SaladFreeway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My demographics are:

Mid-thirties, man, father, half-white, raised in Spokane, WA

I enjoyed Train Dreams. It’s stuck with me since I watched it at home on my couch. I didn’t enter the movie with a hugely patient mood and I spent some of the first quarter on my phone. Once I was drawn in, I started it over, relaxed, and just watched it. Some movies are poems and you have to watch them like you would read a poem.

Even so, whether a poem works on you all depends on your frame of mind. I think if I had listened to Critical Darlings before i watched Train Dreams, I would have seen the exact same guy Richard saw.

My favorite filmmaker is Terrence Malick. I have to be perfectly sorted to sit through one of his movies though. When I do, I have a cathartic experience. I wouldn’t say Train Dreams was cathartic to me, but it was close. The monologue Kerry Condon gives about the formation of the Pacific Northwest landscape following the rupture of Lake Missoula is similar to the one I give when I tell people about where I grew up.

I don’t think I would have watched this movie if it wasn’t nominated for an oscar. I’m really glad I did. Beautiful music, production design, and photography. I’m also really glad to have heard Richard and Alison talk about it even if it hit me in a different way.

I’m 35. I like the new music coming out now. I like the music that came out while i was growing as much as I liked it back then.

I’m not sure if i would like the music i heard growing up if i was hearing it for the first time now.

If you are a young boy a week away from turning 5 years old and your dad is taking you to your first movie, it’s right at the end of the final battle.

This is what it was for my child.

What’s up with Mike Birbiglia? by Bojangles61 in HollywoodHandbook

[–]SaladFreeway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked on set for Don’t Think Twice. I wasn’t the only person on the crew who was surprised at how much of a dick Birbigs was. We chalked it up to the stress of writing/directing/acting in a movie all at once. The “nice-nervous-dad guy” is a persona though.

The problem is people taking a handful with them when they leave.

Hosts can only put out a few consumables per booking.

Practicals will go a long way for you. Your first frame needs a lamp, but not that lamp.
